What’s it like to be a woman in tech today? For one thing, it can be lonely. Women make up only 24 percent of the tech workforce at entry level, and occupy only 11 percent of executive positions in Silicon Valley.
In addition to being on their own, women also face significant challenges: According to female tech pros recently surveyed by global technology association ISACA, wage inequality, workplace gender bias and a shortage of female role models are among the biggest barriers they’re experiencing today.
What are some of the primary reasons women are so underrepresented in tech? In the same survey, 33 percent say it’s because tech leaders and role models are largely male, while 22 percent report that tech is perceived as a male-dominated field.
