Scammers have become increasingly sophisticated at targeting job seekers, often mimicking real companies, job postings, and emails, making it difficult to identify fraudulent activity. Be wary of any request for upfront payments for training and equipment or for your personal information, which can be used for identity theft and financial fraud. Here are some tips to avoid job scams and stay alert during your search: 1. Protect your personal information Never share your social security number prior to being hired. Never provide your bank account or payment information. Legitimate companies will not ask you to pay upfront for training, equipment, or job applications. Only include your preferred contact method (email or phone number) on your profile and resume. If you're not comfortable, you can remove your personal contact info from your resume and leverage Dice communication channels (Private Email and IM). 2. How to protect your information
Protecting your personal information is the first step in preventing and avoiding any misuse or scams. Best practices for account security Create a strong password Don’t use the same password you use on other services Change your password regularly. Typical security guidelines recommend between 30 and 180 days. A strong password should be at least 12 characters long, but 14+ is recommended. Do not share your login information with anyone. Dice will never ask for your password. Sharing personal information with employers Never share any personal information such as your social security number or any bank account information until after you are hired.
