Transport Engineer

No 3rd party, this is a 3 year contract, remote. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Optical Network Engineer /Transport Engineer 3 to join our team. This is a break, fix & trouble shooting, getting into the equipment and doing engineering group type of role. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with optical transport networks and the ability to work independently under general supervision in a fast-paced environment. Pay rate is between $45 - $50 per hour.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, configure, and manage the installation and maintenance of optical transport networks, including:
• Infrastructure setup and hardware commissioning
• Decommissioning of obsolete equipment
• Execute complex work packages and network designs received via workflow tools, including:
• Verifying network designs against physical networks
• Confirming material orders and work requests
• Coordinating tasks with other teams to complete work requests
• Developing and executing Change Requests, including detailed Methods of Procedure (MOPs)-
• Deploy and provision various optical network elements and services-
• Perform scheduled maintenance window activities, including network maintenance, augments, optimizations, and troubleshooting
• Provide Tier II technical support for Provisioning, ENOC, and Operations teams
• Troubleshoot and provision key optical transport equipment, including:
• Nokia PSS-
• CISCO NCS2015-
• Ciena 6500 -
• Ensure accurate documentation and ticket status reporting across all assignments
• Support break/fix incidents and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation as needed

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in Optical Transport deployment, operations, and maintenance
• Proven experience with optical network providers or vendors in operations or engineering roles
• Expertise in building optical networking infrastructure and working with optical networking equipment and systems
• Hands-on experience with optical transport equipment, including Nokia PSS, Cisco NCS2015, and Ciena 6500
• Strong knowledge of OTN, SONET, and DWDM technologies-
• Familiarity with routing protocols, optical transport systems, provisioning, and troubleshooting
• Ability to interpret complex work packages, execute tasks independently, and ensure timely delivery of projects
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to perform critical network changes on live customer circuits without causing outages

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in building and managing large-scale optical networking infrastructure
• Familiarity with common service configurations for optical transport systems
• Creative problem-solving skills with a high degree of autonomy in decision-making
