Job Details
This position will collaborate with multiple teams across Tesla to characterize battery materials, determine degradation mechanisms, and optimize cell performance. The candidate will be responsible for multiple, high-impact projects which will involve implementing existing techniques, developing new techniques, and analyzing existing data to rapidly characterize batteries. Responsibilities
- Be a key member of a cross functional team to optimize lithium-ion battery performance over life for new and existing cells
- Work with cell engineers to develop/debug electrochemical tests methods to analyze battery materials or parameters, elucidate fundamental mechanisms leading to degradation, and improve cell lifetime modeling
- Work with data engineers to create smooth data pipeline for requirement owners on a global scale
- Coordinate the workflow of cell dissections and electrochemical tests with the technicians and ensure the tests are executed according to the plan
- Align with global lab locations on the test protocol compatibility
- Support test equipment (e.g. glove box, battery cycler) setup and maintenance
- Periodically review the test data for quality control
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Materials, related field, or equivalent experience
- Understanding of lithium-ion cell chemistry and degradation mechanism
- Knowledge of electrical test equipment used in battery cell testing or equivalent
- Familiar with chemical analysis techniques for battery materials
- Ability to learn new concepts and methods, propose design of experiments, and execute independently
- Some coding experience preferred (e.g. MATLAB, Python, and/or similar data analysis tool)

$80,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
