Join the outstanding and specialized field of Mass Properties Engineering and help ensure our spacecraft get payloads to the right orbit around our planet or around other objects in our solar system, help our missile systems intercept a threat and protect our troops, help deliver a payload with pinpoint accuracy, or help us develop smaller, lightweight directed energy weapons so they can be deployed on a variety of platforms.

As a Mass Properties Engineer, you will:

Provide Mass Properties Engineering support to multiple missile, reentry systems, or special programs

Calculate mass properties and update and maintain mass properties database

Perform basic trade studies and make presentations at program design reviews

Support development of test procedures and perform mass properties measurements, then reduce and interpret measurement data into final user values

Support Mass Properties Control Boards and weight reduction teams

Document and publish all types of analysis reports and support the mass properties effort on small or large programs

Basic Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in calculating the mass properties (mass, 3 axis centers of gravity, moments and products of inertia) of components and performing summation calculations into assemblies

Ability to use and understand the concepts behind simple software tools to perform these calculations

Demonstrated ability to perform simple weight and center of gravity measurement using multiple platform scales or load cells

Experience interpreting detailed mechanism designs taken from manufacturing drawings or standard modeling software tools

Data reduction and simple error analysis

ship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance

Desired skills

Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace), Physics, or Mathematics

Perform simple mass properties estimation of preliminary design concepts

Experience performing more complex mass properties measurements using rotary-type spin balance machine. Demonstrated ability to interpret results and dynamically balance the test object within requirements

Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point, solid modeling applications (IDEAS, Pro-E, or CREO), Mathcad and/or MATLAB, and other software tools

Experience as a key contributor for weight control and reduction efforts

Ability to support technical concerns with respect to weight reduction application

Ability to write Mass Properties procedures, practices and/or specifications

Experience working on integrated product team, interacting with other engineering fields, technicians, subcontractors, and customer

Familiarity with manufacturing and assembly techniques & processes, developing test procedures, and performing data reduction

Missile or space segment design and test experience with one or more subsystems or fields outside of Systems Engineering

Demonstrated basic understanding of systems thinking skills and behaviors

Excellent written and verbal communications skills, strong social skills, and ability to build solid relationships with team members

Active Top Secret clearance

Ability to work remotely

Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

Work Schedule Information

Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

National Pay Statement

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington or Washington DC is $70,100 - $123,625. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays.
(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.

Premium Pay Statement
