In this exciting role as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer supporting the Cardiac Surgery R&D Released Product Engineering organization, you will support commercially released product (sustaining) activities focused on troubleshooting, analyzing, and implementing design solutions via CAD software with a focus on injection molded components.
The Cardiac Surgery Operating Unit develops life-restoring therapies and healthcare solutions that span the care continuum; integrating technologies and applying clinical and economic evidence to increase patient access, improve efficiency of procedures and deliver successful patient outcomes.
This position is in Brooklyn Park, MN within the Cardiac Surgery (CS) Operating Unit and requires on-site presence.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$98,400.00 - $147,600.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

A Day in the Life
In general, the following responsibilities apply for the Senior Mechanical Engineer role. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Develop and evaluate designs, including CAD models and drawings, which meet defined product requirements and that are optimized for producibility, reliability, and overall cost to the business.
- Proficient in GD&T and CAD software such as Creo or SolidWorks.
- Ability to troubleshoot design issues, particularly understand injection molding related issues (i.e., process, material, design intent).
- Work with cross functional teams to review, assess and implement design input for injection molded components.
- Lead troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts related to development projects. Support decisions through thorough engineering analysis and data.
- Verify the functionality of product design by developing design test methodology and specifications to ensure product designs meet applicable performance requirements.
- Utilize project management and lean sigma methodologies, including DMAIC and MS Project. Adhere to the applicable medical device FDA requirements for design and manufacturing, including ISO 13485:2003 medical device materials, related processes, and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
Qualifications -
Must Have - Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor's degree required in engineering or a technical discipline.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
Nice to Have
- Proficient in GD&T and CAD software such as Creo or SolidWorks.
- Design experience within the medical device industry.
- Proven communication skills and ability to lead within a multi-functional team environment.
- Ability to manage project timelines to execute deliverables in a timely manner.
- Ability to solve problems and provide innovate solutions.
- Experience with statistical analysis.
