CORE Electric Cooperative is seeking a Cyber Security Specialist to join our IT team in our Sedalia office, reporting to the Cyber Security Manager. The Cyber Security Specialist plays a crucial role in safeguarding the organization's IT infrastructure by ensuring its confidentiality, integrity, and availability. This role is pivotal in building the capability to prevent, detect, respond to, and recover from any cyber threats.


This individual will be actively involved in monitoring phishing campaigns, assessing the security posture of systems, and responding to security alerts. They will provide essential security support to end-users and collaborate with IT professionals to ensure security is integrated into all business initiatives.


This position demands a comprehensive understanding of server and network technologies, exceptional critical thinking skills, and the ability to effectively interact with diverse individuals, including dealing with challenging situations or individuals.


This position is onsite at our Sedalia office, located at 5496 North U.S. Highway 85, Sedalia, CO 80135.


You will...

  • Conduct reviews of user submitted emails and perform remediation activities based on standardized response process.
  • Develop and deploy new filters to prevent future threats.
  • Modify, and manage user accounts and groups within Active Directory.
  • Create, Test, Modify and Maintain Policies to enforce security settings, configurations for user accounts and computers.
  • Implement and manage security measures, including system firewalls, antivirus software, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Stay informed about security trends and vulnerabilities, applying patches and updates as needed to mitigate risks.
  • Participate in IT projects, providing technical expertise and contributing to project planning and execution.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation of IT solutions.
  • Participate in Cyber Security Incident Response procedures, providing technical expertise and contributing to execution.
  • Identify and assess vulnerabilities in the organizations IT Infrastructure.
  • Report and Work with relevant teams to remediate identified vulnerability findings.
  • Conduct regular system audits for security and performance enhancements.
  • Generate and present reports on system health, security status, and performance metrics to relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of system and security configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Update documentation as changes are made to the security configurations.
  • Stay informed about the latest technologies and industry trends.
  • Participate in training programs to enhance technical skills and contribute to professional development.
  • Work during core business hours, Monday through Friday, aligning with a standard 40-hour workweek. Flexibility may be required for system maintenance, upgrades, or urgent issues outside regular hours. This position ensures consistent support during the organization's standard operating hours.

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience in system administration, network administration, Security Operations Center Analyst, Forensic Technician or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of server and network security technologies, possess proficiency in operating systems such as Windows Server.
  • A track record of successful security focused operational support, security implementation, and collaboration within an IT environment.
  • A strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and a commitment to ongoing professional development are essential for success in this role.

The ideal candidate will also possess the following preferred experiences...

  • Advanced certifications such as CompTIA CYSA, CEH, or equivalent, highlighting expertise or specialization in a security focused career.
  • Proven experience with SIEM, as well as expertise in implementing and managing advanced security measures, is highly desirable.
  • A demonstrated ability to contribute effectively to IT projects, exhibit strong leadership skills, and highlight a proactive approach to staying abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement will further distinguish the ideal candidate for this role.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Security +, SSCP)

Salary Range: $73,611 - $98,218 annually

This position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program driven by organizational and individual performance up to 5%.
