Healthcare Interoperability Architect

Elite Technical is seeking a Healthcare Interoperability Architect who will be responsible for designing and implementing advanced data exchange solutions that ensure seamless interoperability across electronic health records (EHRs) and other healthcare systems and data sources. The role requires deep technical expertise in standards such as HL7, APIs, and FHIR, with a focus on delivering scalable, clinician-centered solutions that enhance clinical decision-making and enable quality patient care while complying with healthcare regulations and enabling efficient data transfers for patient billing. Collaborating with clinical informaticists to align with clinician workflows and revenue cycle analysts to support access, coding, and claims needs, the Architect oversees technical systems analysis, design, implementation, and support for all interoperability activities. The Healthcare Interoperability Architect also manages the facility-s interface engine, including reviewing interface specifications, developing and testing new routes, maintaining documentation, and administering updates to ensure efficient system operations and regulatory compliance in a value-based care environment. Essential duties include:

- Leverage technical expertise to design and implement clinician-centered data exchange solutions across EHRs and healthcare systems, ensuring integration aligns with clinical workflows through collaboration with clinical informaticists and providers.
- Work closely with clinical informaticists to translate clinical needs into technical solutions, focusing on enhancing clinician workflows, data accessibility, and decision-making within EHR systems.
- Align interoperability solutions with value-based care initiatives, ensuring the systems enhance patient care outcomes while reducing costs through efficient data exchange.
- Oversee the design and implementation of interoperability solutions that support revenue cycle data exchange, specifically for patient access, medical coding, and billing processes.
- Ensure seamless integration of systems that handle patient registration, insurance verification, coding (ICD-10, CPT), and billing data, working closely with revenue cycle management teams to optimize data flow and ensure accurate, efficient claims processing and reimbursement.
- Collaborate with clinical informatics, hospital and physician practice operations, revenue cycle, and IT teams to align data exchange solutions with both clinical and financial requirements.
- Ensure all interoperability solutions comply with federal and state healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and the 21st Century Cures Act, and proactively adapt systems to meet evolving regulatory requirements.
- Partner with Quality Assurance & Risk Management to determine organizational data sharing priorities and align annual work plans for quality reporting and data sharing.
- Review interface specifications, develop and test new routes, maintain comprehensive documentation, and manage the facility-s interface engine, ensuring route maintenance and necessary updates are executed efficiently.
- Evaluate and integrate new external data sources, collaborating with provider partners and clinical teams to determine the value of data integration for improving patient care.
- Lead cross-functional teams in the development, testing, and implementation of interoperability solutions, ensuring that projects are completed on time, on budget, and meet organizational goals.
- Train and support interoperability and other IT team members so that they are equipped with the necessary technical skills and clinical or revenue cycle context to successfully design, implement, and maintain interoperability solutions and are well versed in regulatory requirements and technology changes.
- Use best practices and follow departmental guidelines for change management processes and communications to maintain highest levels of system stability and reliability.
- Follow standard help desk procedures, respond to requests for technical assistance, and track and route issues using standard IT Service Management procedures and guidelines.
- Maintain strong working relationships with IT colleagues and with external parties including end users, vendors, professional organizations, and consultants.
- Ensure that all interoperability solutions adhere to the highest standards of information security, protecting patient data and maintaining the integrity of healthcare systems.
- Proactively safeguard against data breaches and ensure secure data exchange across all systems.
