Job Details

The Department of Pathology in St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is looking for a highly motivated individual to join its new Computational Pathology Resource in the Department of Pathology under the direction of Dr. Brent Orr (Member and Division Director of Anatomic Pathology and Neuropathology). In this position you will work as a key member of an informatics team on projects investigating the relationship between tumor morphology, genomic features, and outcome in pediatric brain and solid tumors from clinical trial cohorts. We are seeking applicants with expertise in histology image analysis, computer vision, machine learning or related fields.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Build, execute and troubleshoot image processing pipelines.
  • Develop defined image analysis pipelines with clear objectives combining knowledge from image analysis, signal processing, computer science, and programming/ scripting.
  • Assist in development of image analysis pipelines to support real-time, close-to-real time, and asynchronous processing.
  • Work with research staff, vendors, and/or other departments in identifying existing image analysis solutions via consultations.
  • Ensure the application of highest standards in scientific rigor in all analysis pipelines.
  • Actively contribute to the evaluation and adaption of new methods and technologies.
  • Support data interpretation and statistics efforts downstream of image analysis.
  • Metadata cleaning and management for image machine learning pipelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in applied mathematics, physics, chemistry, bioinformatics, computer science, data science, computer engineering or related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Minimum Experience:
  • Minimum Requirement: Bachelor's degree with 1+ years of work experience in relevant area (e.g., applied mathematics, physics, chemistry, bioinformatics, computer science, data science, computer engineering) required.
  • Experience Exception: Master's degree with no experience.
  • Experience in image analyses, image data management, and programming (e.g., Python, R, Matlab, Java, C/C++)
  • Experience in image analysis platforms (e.g., ImageJ/Fiji, CellProfiler), scientific computing, scientific data visualization, scientific computer code optimization and evaluation in an HPC environment, development of algorithms, statistical methods or scientific software, working with large image data volumes, biological/medical imaging.

Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $78,000 - $139,360 per year for the role of Image Data Scientist-Computational Pathology Resource.
