The ML/AI Engineer role is an exciting, dynamic role within the Enterprise Information Security (EIS) Cyber AI team. Our AI team builds innovative solutions to improve UHG's cybersecurity stance. The data and systems we protect are distributed across the world, are a complex combination of technologies, and are always evolving. Cyber security data is collected in structured, unstructured, and semi-structured formats, at varying velocities, and in a complex, dynamic security environment. The ideal candidate has experience creatively navigating development, analytic, and engineering challenges within a large organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Working with internal customers to produce meaningful AI models that impact cybersecurity
  • Collecting, cleaning, processing, and analyzing data related to enterprise cybersecurity
  • Developing AI models within an operational CICD pipeline
  • Working with source data teams to understand security and operational processes through data
  • Remaining up to date and on the cutting edge of data science, machine learning, Generative AI and big data technology
  • Constantly exploring, learning, and adopting new techniques, languages, and technologies

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • 2+ years of experience in mathematical foundations of machine learning
  • 2+ years of experience in Python, R, Java, C++, Matlab or another modern programming language
  • 2+ years of experience with various deep learning frameworks like PyTorch, Tensorflow etc
  • 1+ years of experience delivering statistical models to customers in a large organization
  • 1+ year of real-world data science experience in a large organization or supporting a large organization
  • 1+ years of experience with data engineering with an affinity for developing code from the command line
  • 1+ years of Hands-on experience implementing and training machine learning algorithms or statistical analysis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Operation Research or Engineering or Ph.D. degree
  • First author publications in NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AISTATS, UAI, AAAI, KDD, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ACL or other computer science conferences or statistics journals
  • Experience working in an interdisciplinary environment, particularly across engineering and cybersecurity
  • Knowledge and experience working with big data including semi structured log data
  • Experience working with Big Data systems
  • Software tool development experience: source control (git), packaging, documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team
  • Proven solid spoken and written communication skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
