412 Food Rescue - Fleet Intern

(Unpaid)


Objective: Gain hands-on experience in fleet management and support the organization s efforts to efficiently transport recovered food to those in need.

***This does not include driving responsibilities

Duration: 3 months (adjustable based on your availability and the organization's needs)


Week 1-2: Orientation and Training

  • Learn about the organization s mission, values, and goals.
  • Understand the role of the fleet department in food recovery.
  • Receive training on vehicle maintenance, safety procedures, and route planning.
  • Shadow experienced fleet operators to learn about daily tasks and responsibilities.

Week 3-4: Fleet Operations

  • Assist in vehicle inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Learn how to maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Understand the importance of safety protocols in fleet operations.

Week 5-6: Route Planning and Optimization

  • Assist in planning and optimizing delivery routes for food pickups and deliveries.
  • Learn how to use route planning software and tools.
  • Identify opportunities to improve route efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.

Week 7-8: Data Collection and Analysis

  • Collect data on vehicle performance, fuel consumption, and maintenance costs.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Make recommendations for optimizing fleet operations and reducing costs.

Week 9-10: Community Outreach

  • Assist in organizing awareness campaigns about food waste and food recovery.
  • Participate in community events to promote the organization's mission.
  • Engage with volunteers and partner organizations to strengthen relationships.

Week 11-12: Final Project and Presentation

  • Choose a relevant project to work on (e.g., implementing a vehicle maintenance schedule, improving fuel efficiency).
  • Present your project findings and recommendations to the fleet department and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Reflect on your internship experience and provide feedback to the organization
