Job Title: Coast Guard Vessel Operations SME / Maritime Training Instructor
Location: 100% Remote (Preferred East coast location)
Job Type: Full-Time
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) in U.S. Coast Guard vessel operations and training to support our maritime instruction programs. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of USCG procedures, vessel handling, navigation, and safety protocols, and be able to translate that into instructional content or deliver hands-on training.
This role is critical in ensuring that our training aligns with current Coast Guard standards and operational practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide expertise in Coast Guard vessel operations, including cutters, patrol boats, and small craft.
Develop and/or deliver training materials, lesson plans, and simulations for maritime crews.
Conduct classroom, virtual, or on-vessel training on topics such as:
Vessel navigation and maneuvering
Emergency procedures and safety compliance
Standard operating procedures (SOPs)
USCG navigation rules (NAVRULES)
Support curriculum development based on current USCG protocols and mission requirements.
Ensure compliance with federal maritime laws and training standards (e.g., STCW, SOLAS, USCG policies).
Participate in evaluation and feedback for continuous improvement of training content.
Collaborate with other SMEs, instructional designers, and project managers.
Required Qualifications:
Prior service in the U.S. Coast Guard (E6+, CWO, or Officer level preferred).
5+ years of experience in vessel operations (cutter, patrol boat, small boat).
Proven experience delivering instruction or training in maritime or Coast Guard contexts.
Strong understanding of USCG doctrine, vessel SOPs, navigation systems, and maritime regulations.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
