Overview

The primary focus will be data analysis, data management, and reporting. The Senior Data Analyst shall perform analytical reporting and ensure delegates and subcontracted vendors meet VEBA's expectations in timely and complete claims/encounter data submissions, an essential task in the monitoring of clinical and financial performance of the VEBA direct pilot project.

How you'll make an impact

  • Claims analysis -Responsible for analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data related to medical claims and encounters to support decision-making and operational efficiency. Evaluate and interpret medical claims data to identify patterns, anomalies, and areas for improvement. Identify trends, generate reports, and develop strategies to enhance claims and encounter management and processing.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting - Analyze large datasets related to medical claims, billing codes, patient demographics, and claim status. Develop and maintain reports and dashboards that provide insights into claims/encounter patterns, processing times / lag, and reimbursement trends. Identify and address discrepancies in data, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Data sources for analyses include internal databases as well as third-party vendor data.
  • Quality Assurance - Develop and perform quality control practices to maintain data integrity and accuracy. Ensure that data handling and analysis comply with relevant regulations and standards, including HIPAA and other data protection laws.
  • Project Management - Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget and meeting the specification of the request. Prioritize project tasks, manage timelines, maintain project plans and communicate status to team members, and senior management.
  • Verbal and Written Communication and Reporting - Communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively with fellow staff. Participate in team building efforts to promote positive interpersonal relationships with team members
  • Document Management - Maintain internal and external documentation/communications, data dashboards and illustrations to maintain project continuity, ensuring compliance and providing resources for future projects.
  • Presentation - Conduct oral presentations for varied audience levels (lay persons, program staff, medical staff) in a clear, concise and engaging manner. Responding to audience questions and feedback. Adapt presentations to meet the needs of specific audiences or situations. Collaborate with other team members (e.g. subject matter experts) to ensure a successful presentation.
  • Professional writing - Prepare briefings, slide presentations, website content, education materials and instructional materials as requested. Organize complex statistical and narrative reports, data analytics, charts and exhibits into a complete document suitable to present to stakeholders.
  • Collaboration - Participate in (and occasionally lead) inter-unit and intra-departmental meetings and external vendors to collaborate on initiatives, studies, evaluations, project.
  • Meeting management - Participation and preparation of agendas, minutes and project summaries and tracking project timelines.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

About You

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science in related field, i.e., computer / data science, mathematics, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted.
  • Minimum of 3 years of data analysis, data management and quality control, report creation, and or other relevant and applicable work experience.
  • Knowledge of health care delivery systems and health care claims and encounter data.
  • Proven experience as a Health Care Data Analyst, preferably with a focus on medical claims and encounter data.
  • Strong understanding of medical billing codes (e.g., ICD, CPT, HCPCS) and claims processing workflows in both ambulatory and hospital settings.
  • Proficiency in management of managed care data and quality reporting.
  • Familiarity with management of ancillary data sets such as pharmacy.
  • Experience with data analysis tools and software (e.g., SQL, Excel, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in project management or programs requiring integration of cross-functional technologies and/or business solutions
  • Bachelor's degree or related field experience 3 years
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft products, including Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook and aptitude for learning new software and systems Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to adjust communication based on audience and appropriate level of understanding.
  • Advanced attention to detail and management of workflow.
  • Strong data analysis skills with expertise in manipulating and analyzing large data sets.
  • Apply critical thinking to daily tasks.
  • Flexible team player willing to do what it takes to get the job done; adaptable and enjoys a challenge
  • Experience demonstrating the ability to handle multiple tasks frequently with short timelines, to prioritize and organize work, and to complete assignments in a timely, accurate manner.

Preferred Attributes:
  • Statistical knowledge
  • SAS or similar statistical programming language experience.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance standards.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and their data structures.
  • Experience with data integration and ETL processes.
