Senior GIS Analyst and Software Engineer

Who You Are:

Versar is seeking a Senior GIS Analyst and Software Engineer for our Geospatial & Digital Solutions (GDS) Market Sector. This position will report directly to the Director - Technical Solutions team and support workflows and services, implement, and maintain GIS efforts, increase efficiencies, and reinforce the foundation for innovation and advancement for our spatial data program. The position requires skills and services that will collaborate with and enable our scientists, engineers, and customers with the ability to dynamically interact with data and products throughout various stages project lifecycles. Primary work location is flexible with office, hybrid, or remote options.

What You'll Do:

• Engage with managed services clients on a regular basis, providing technical recommendations while fostering organizational GIS growth and system stability.
• Strategize recommendations to improve client environments, including the design of appropriate architecture patterns that best fit client needs.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external teams to provide regular project updates.
• Lead administrative tasks including security checks, system monitoring setup, conducting health checks, and implementing scheduled tasks.
• Collaborate internally to develop technical recommendations documents, standard operating procedures, and training/demo materials to present to clients.

What You'll Bring:

The ideal candidate will have the knowledge and experience to working with a team of developers, government analysts, and product owners to create complex and large-scale software applications in support of business requirements for web based and enterprise level platforms. Specific tasks include Python API development on Federated Machine Learning platform, feature extraction of geospatial data formats (Raster and Vector), ingestion and indexing geospatial datasets in elastic search, working on infrastructure deployed on Azure Government workspace, and enhancing technology stack (e.g., GitHub, CI/CD, Airflow, Open Lens for Kubernetes, Insomnia API testing and documentation, Open API, Python Scientific Libraries, Dask, and more). The candidate will also need to demonstrate the ability to create products that allow data and information to be disseminated and visualized using both proprietary and non-proprietary open-source software solutions.

Technical Skills:

• Expertise with ArcGIS Enterprise and QGIS installation/configuration/updates, system patching/maintenance, license renewals, and detail-oriented troubleshooting.
• ArcGIS Pro workflows, and the suite of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications.
• Solid foundational knowledge of web technologies/concepts including C | C++ | Java with JNI | Perl | Pascal | Assembly | SQL | PLSQL | Arc Macro Language (AML) | Sell Script | HTML | XML | Python | .Net | VB | Arc Object | JSF | JSP | CSS3 | JSTL | Groovy | ADF-BC | jQuery | Ajax | SOAP | dojo | REST | WPF | Flask REST API | Django | Open GIS | Java Script | HTML5 | CSS3.
• Proven experience documenting business requirements, Agile Scrum experience, architecting business solutions based on client need that adhere to operational, architectural and design standards and principles.
• Understanding of modern database management systems Oracle relational database | ArcInfo data base | Versant object-oriented database | Hydrologic Engineering Center Data Storage System | Sybase | MS SQL | Informix | NetCDF | Oracle Spatial (10g, 11g) | MySQL | PostgreSQL | ArcSDE | Google Datastore | NoSQL MongoDB | Microsoft SQL Server.
• Experience in User Centered Design concepts and application to development practices.
• Familiarity with QGIS, Leafmap, GeoPandas, DuckDB, PostGIS, GDAL, and other open-source software to create, edits, visualize, analyze, and publish geospatial information.
• Firm foundation with various system architecture patterns, including single/multi-machine environments, on-prem/cloud implementations, hybrid, and high availability deployments.
• Web-mapping solutions for internal and external users.
• Provide technical guidance and information to end users.

Requirements:

• BS/MS in computer science, geographic information systems, information technologies, engineering, or a closely related field.
• A minimum of 20 years of experience as a Scientist/IT/Python GIS professional.
• Experience and competency with Python, VBA, JavaScript, SQL, JSON.
• Ability to work with multi-disciplinary natural resource, engineering, and modeling teams.
• Strong written and oral communication skills with colleagues and clients.
• Due to the nature of the work, ship is required.
• Successful results of preemployment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screen.
• Comply with company drug and alcohol policy.
• Be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by the successful candidate's start date.

Location Requirements

The position will primarily work remote.

Compensation

Expected Salary: $140,000 - $140,000 per year
