Cisco Jr. Network Technician

Job Details




  • Access Switch Refresh


    • Check cable plant in closet to determine if it will need new cabling

    • Port counts, qty of switches needed

    • Deliver switches to site

    • Coordination with onsite resources for dates/times of cutover

    • Assist with cutovers




  • Wi-Fi Refresh


    • Verify preparedness of closet by checking switch capacity (open ports, Ports in use by Wi-Fi, POE ports)

    • Walk site with cabling company, showing locations of APs (per floorplan)

    • Locate and determine ability to re-use cabling in wall if possible

    • Coordinate and verify AP installs

    • Assist with cutovers

    • Perform site survey (only if resource is capable), counts of current equipment

    • Wifi systems and networking in general - disconnecting/reconnecting wifi, analyze Radio Frequencies for current Wifi


  • Cisco experience required

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Must be communicative, self-motivated and able to interact with the front desk staff at all locations.

  • CCNA-Preferred



Network Side:



  • Mainly upgrading old equipment throughout the enterprise (end of life/end of service).

  • Standing up entire new offices.



Wifi Side:



  • Validating walls and buildings. Validating maps. Making sure that cablers can place the access points.

  • Conducting surveys. Wifi density. Taking sweeps of building to see air space and signal density.



Location:



  • Network Technicians don't change sites very often. Focus on one site and upgrade it. They're at home location once per week completing admin work.

  • Normally onsite at clinics or hospitals for 8 hours.



Hours:



  • Only night shifts would be for sensitive areas which are 24/7 care areas-difficult to change all closets at once.

  • They do wifi cutovers overnight (Aruba to Cisco).

  • Normal working hours are between 7:00am-5:00pm. Any deviation is typically split up between the Network Techs.



Equipment:



  • All the brocades are out now. Upgrading older Cisco equipment.

  • Old: Cisco Catalyst 3850

  • New: Cisco Catalyst 9300
