Apex Systems is seeking a Tenable Security Engineer to join our clients Scanning and Monitoring team. The ideal candidate will have significant expertise managing the Tenable product as well as a strong background in information security and vulnerability assessment. Location: Remote - must be local to Stennis, MS

Hours: Regular business hours

Compensation: $135,000-$150,000/yr

Job type: 6-month contract to hire


Certifications: ITIL v4 - can obtain within first 6 months

Start date: June 1st

What You'll Get to Do

The Tenable Security Engineer should feel comfortable optimizing the Tenable implementation while collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance DHS' overall security posture. This role is part of a team of Scanning and Monitoring Engineers working to define, develop, and manage strategies that reduce risk and improve resiliency. The Tenable Security Engineer will:
  • Serve as a point of contact providing technical guidance and supporting the Tenable solution
  • Support the design, implementation, and tailoring of the Tenable solution
  • Develop and manage scanning policies and schedules for vulnerability assessments
  • Analyze scan results and prioritize remediation efforts
  • Create customer audit files and plugins for specific security checks
  • Integrate Tenable solutions with other security tools (SNOW, SIEM)
  • Develop, recommend, and enforce policies for scanning and monitoring
  • Document and map the architecture of current scanning and monitoring tools and environment
  • Support the development of a Security Engineering Tool roadmap
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance overall security posture through automation
  • Stay current with emerging security technologies and industry trends to recommend improvements or additions


You'll Bring These Qualifications
  • Ability to attain DHS EOD and Top Secret (TS) clearance
  • ITIL V4 Foundations certification (or obtain in first 6 months)
  • BA/BS or equivalent +10 years of experience (AA/AS +12yrs)
  • Significant experience in cybersecurity, with strong hands-on experience in scanning and monitoring
  • Strong knowledge of vulnerability management principles and practices
  • Strong experience integrating Tenable with other security tools
  • Proficient in scripting languages (Python, PowerShell) for automation and integration
  • 4 or more years of hands-on experience in enterprise IT support
  • Experience working with and guiding technicians with varying skill levels and supporting end users remotely
  • Experience with security tools and technologies, like SIEM, IDS/IPS, and firewalls
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in optimizing security workflows
  • Professional, customer-oriented, and even-keeled under pressure
  • Effective communicator at all levels, both written and verbal


These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have
  • Tenable relevant certification (i.e. Tenable Certified Security Engineer)
  • Significant experience with DevOps practice and tools
  • Knowledge of cloud security and containerization technologies
  • Cybersecurity relevant certification Security +, CEH, GPEN, OSEP, Information Systems Security Engineering Professional (ISSEP)
