Post Doctoral Associate in Environmental DNA

The Environmental Science & Policy Department at University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine Atmospheric and Earth Science Applications has an exciting opportunity for a full time, two-year Post Doctoral Associate in environmental DNA (eDNA) in the lab of Dr. Richard Coleman. Our NOAA-OER funded project, in collaboration with Isla Mar Research Expeditions, aims to characterize mesophotic fish assemblages in Puerto Rico. The postdoc will play a crucial role in implementing and interpreting environmental DNA (eDNA) experiments to characterize fish diversity across a vertical depth gradient using high-throughput sequencing data as well as organize and help lead a field expedition in Puerto Rico. There will also be opportunities for the postdoctoral researcher to develop his/her own project related to the research focus.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., biology, ecology, evolution), strong bioinformatics skills, experience with analyzing eDNA, proven record of peer-reviewed publications, an ability to organize and lead field expeditions, and interest in contributing to an inclusive work environment. Other qualifications include a strong work ethic, problem-solving and time management skills, and independent research experience. Preferred qualifications include certification as a scientific diver with training from the American Association of Underwater Scientists (AAUS), or a desire to receive such training, and certification as a closed-circuit rebreather (CCR) diver.

Salary: The salary will range from $60,000-$70,000, depending on experience. Postdoctoral researchers at University of Miami (UM) are fully benefited employees with UM health insurance/dental/vision, life insurance, retirement program, etc. (i.e., benefits plans similar to faculty). Applicants from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the STEM are strongly encouraged to apply.

To apply, please send your CV, a list of three references, and a letter of interest briefly describing your experience as well as your experience in genomics/bioinformatics (not more than 2 pages) with the subject line eDNA_Postdoc_Position.

The University of Miami is an Equal Opportunity Employer - Females/Minorities/Protected Veterans/Individuals with Disabilities are encouraged to apply. Applicants and employees are protected from discrimination based on certain categories protected by Federal law. Click here for additional information.
