Department Overview
Applied Technology Services (ATS) is an internal service organization that provides high quality technical services and expertise on an as-needed basis to all lines of business at Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E). Based at PG&E's San Ramon Technology Center, ATS is a multi-disciplinary team of approximately 129 engineers and technical personnel who perform work in the ATS San Ramon offices and laboratories, and in the field.
The Nondestructive Examination (NDE) unit provides technical NDE expertise, consultation, special project inspections and examinations in both the laboratory and in the field. The methods and tools used to support various projects throughout PG&E include: X-Ray conventional and computed radiography, conventional and automated ultrasonic testing using straight beam, shear wave, phased array and TOFD, eddy current, magnetic particle testing, liquid penetrant testing, remote video inspection using push cameras and crawlers, CWI visual inspections, surface laser scanning, infrared thermography, field chemistry analysis, acid etching, and other various material property verification techniques. ATS provides the NDE expertise and performs the NDE on PG&E structures, systems and components associated with Gas Operations, Hydro Generation, Nuclear Power Generation and Electric Operations.
Position Summary
The Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) Supervisor is directly responsible for providing leadership, supervision, training, qualification, technical support, and direction to a staff of NDE technicians and NDE expert specialists who provide comprehensive NDE services for all PG&E lines of business. The Supervisor is accountable and responsible for all NDE operations associated with maintaining a NDE program and executing the examinations, inspections and testing. This includes planning, organizing, and monitoring Unit assignments, and ensuring work expectations for NDE work scope, schedule, cost, safety, quality, procedural and program compliance, and responsiveness are established and are effectively communicated with clients, work unit personnel, management, and other stakeholders.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

- Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $147,000.00
- Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $199,000.00
- Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $251,000.00
Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring that all elements of the ATS written NDE program and the Quality program are being followed and that work is complying with applicable codes, standards and procedures.
- Support and promote the ATS NDE North Star Vision which includes maintaining and developing NDE expertise, continually improving performance reliability, and delivering high customer satisfaction.
- Plan, coordinate, and schedule NDE resources and equipment to fulfill NDE work requests.
- Oversees day-to-day operational work activities of NDE Unit while ensuring work is delivered on schedule, on budget, with high quality and done safely.
- Keeps abreast of new technologies in the industry and makes recommendations to ATS management based on business need.
- Develops and manages short- and long-term plan for unit to meet financial goals and planned productive capacity.
- Evaluates client needs and internal resources to determine what services to provide near and long term. Develops relationships with clients and obtains feedback on ATS work on a regular basis.
- Ensures NDE team understands client needs and that project work/product/service meets client expectations. Ensures regular and effective client communication.
- Prepares regular team/unit performance metric reports for management review.
- Support internal or external NDE audits
- Create, promote and manage a safe work environment. Assures all NDE related work is performed safely and in accordance with PG&E Safety and Health standards.
- Recruits, selects, communicates expectations, fosters employee engagement, coaches, develops, mentors, recognizes and rewards employees in order to drive performance and results.
- Manages union-represented or non-represented technical employees
- Participate in ATS planning and coordination activities to assure Unit is integrated with other ATS services and is prepared to meet future PG&E requirements.
- Prepare short- and long-term goals for the Unit. Work with the ATS Leadership Team on strategic issues including development and implementation of the ATS strategic plan, resource plans, and other special assignments.
- Ensure Unit operational goals and objectives are met in a timely and efficient manner which will require managing the team effectively.
- Coordinate, lead, and supervise the daily production activities of direct reports.
- Monitor and document employee attendance and performance.
- Enforce company policies and procedures in a consistent and fair manner.
- Prepare monthly progress reports on productivity, turnaround time, and other critical business metrics.
- 10-15% travel within the company territory
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
- 7 years of relevant experience
Desired:
- Master's degree in Engineering or related discipline
- Experience leading union-represented employees
- Certifications: ASNT Level 2 or 3 in various NDE methods, AWS Certified Welding Inspector and/or Certified Radiographic Interpreter
- Technical Knowledge & Expertise: Well versed in all aspects of NDE, such as Radiographic Testing, Visual Inspection, Magnetic Particle Testing, Ultrasonic Testing
- Knowledge and understanding of client business needs. General understanding of broader company and industry trends and issues.
