Job Details

Our client is looking for a PostgreSQL DBA to support day to day tasks within their environment, as well as an upcoming project to upgrade 150 clusters to the most recent version of mySQL. The team is currently made up of 6 other DBA's, so the openness to learn and work with other database technologies outside of PostgreSQL is important for this opportunity. In addition to this, someone that can come in and evaluate their current implementation strategies and suggest solutions for better performance/efficiency would be a big asset to this team.
The ideal candidate would have a minimum of 3 years of experience working heavily with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, as well as AWS. Seeking candidates who are passionate about the technology, self-starters, and a quick learner.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Experience with production workloads in an AWS ecosystem
Experience with PostgreSQL 11 and above
Experience with SQL Server 2016 and above
Experience with maintaining AWS RDS and Aurora instances
In-depth understanding of the database engine and strong performance tuning skills
Troubleshooting experience with PostgreSQL and SQL Server high availability solutions
Strong experience working with Unix/Linux and Shell Scripting
Troubleshoot service outages as they occur, including after hours and weekends.
Experience with Infrastructure as a code (IAC) such as terraform, or Cloud-formation is an added advantage
Familiarity with database CICD process, concept, and tools
Understanding of NoSQL databases is an added advantage.
Responsibilities:
Work with developers and business analysts to create and modify database structure
Monitor the performance of the database servers
On-call support on a rotation basis (1 week every 6-7 weeks)
Strong understanding and ability to configure and troubleshoot physical and logical replication in PostgreSQL
Strong understanding and ability to configure and troubleshoot log shipping and Always-on HA solutions in SQL Server
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks both in on-premises and cloud
Familiarity with deploying and managing PostgreSQL, SQL Server in cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform), preferably AWS
Perform database maintenance tasks, including backups/restores, updating statistics, rebuilding indexes, etc.
Work with data engineers to help map data in our production databases to the data warehouse
Maintain system security and data integrity
Work with systems engineers to ensure optimal hardware and storage subsystems
Develop, manage, and maintain a strong disaster recovery and high availability plan
Install, upgrade, and patch the database servers
Participate in code and design reviews
Participate in production code pushes
