Job Title: Adabas Linux Database Administrator (DBA)
Location: Quincy, MA (Hybrid)
Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated Adabas Linux Database Administrator (DBA) to support a "Lift and Shift of an on-premises legacy mainframe application to the AWS Cloud. The role involves collaborating closely with development teams and cloud rehosting vendors to support a cloud rehosting project, implement maintenance enhancements, and resolve defect fixes on the cloud platform.
The DBA will play a crucial role in rehosting a Natural/Adabas mainframe system in the AWS cloud as part of a modernization initiative to streamline eligibility and enrollment processes. The project aims to create a unified system for individuals and families applying for public health insurance benefits.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and maintain Adabas/Natural applications in a Cloud-based, distributed Linux server environment.
- Support Linux operating systems, including RedHat, SuSe, and CentOS, and demonstrate an understanding of Linux architecture and command-line utilities.
- Utilize fundamental cloud knowledge, particularly AWS and Azure platforms.
- Design and implement Adabas databases for optimal performance and scalability.
- Provide database support and resolve database-related issues promptly.
- Utilize EntireX Communicator (RPC & ACI Protocol) effectively.
- Monitor database performance using tools like Adabas Manager.
- Develop and implement backup and recovery procedures with Adabas Backup and Recovery Tools.
- Optimize database performance through query optimization, indexing, and buffer pool management.
- Resolve performance bottlenecks using Adabas Performance Monitor.
- Administer the Natural development environment and handle Adabas utilities such as ADAREP, ADABAS, ADASAV, and ADAORD for maintenance and reporting.
- Configure and manage security certificates with Software AG products.
- Upgrade, configure, and manage Software AG products on Linux, including but not limited to Adabas, EntireX Communicator, Natural Construct, and Predict.
- Perform Linux shell scripting and schedule system tasks using cron.
- Conduct database startups, shutdowns, backups, and file reorders.
- Apply updates and fixes using the Software AG Update Manager.
- Communicate with business users and managers effectively, ensuring alignment with project goals.
Qualifications:
- Strong relationship skills and the ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in business, process, and data modeling.
- Knowledge of computer systems analysis, design methods, and technical terminology.
- Experience with system management tools, both console and web-based.
- Ability to coordinate with multiple vendors.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and managing multiple projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and tools such as Jira Software.
- Familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of Information Technology experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Adabas Database Administrator.
- Prior experience in government or healthcare projects is preferred.
