About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

Internship Term:

Rivian internships are experiences optimized for student candidates. To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited program during the internship term with an expected graduation date between December 2025 and December 2027.

If you are not pursuing a degree, please see our full time positions on our Rivian careers site.

Note that if your university has specific requirements for internship programs, it is your responsibility to fulfill those requirements.

In this role, you'll play a crucial role in enhancing the reliability of Rivian's current and next-generation mechanical and structural systems, including chassis, body, interiors, and exteriors. This internship offers a unique opportunity to identify and mitigate reliability issues early in the design and manufacturing process, ensuring our products achieve the highest standards of quality and durability.

Responsibilities

  • Reliability Qualification: Drive the qualification process for mechanical and structural systems to ensure unparalleled reliability in Rivian products.
  • Degradation Characterization: Develop methods to characterize the degradation of mechanical components, contributing directly to component validation testing.
  • Test Plan Development: Design comprehensive test plans for component validation, with a focus on identifying and addressing potential material and mechanical issues.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with design and validation teams to ensure reliability considerations are integrated into product development.
  • Issue Diagnosis: Diagnose material and mechanical issues that arise during validation testing and provide actionable recommendations for improvement.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Bachelors, with a major in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
  • Design oriented skills in CAD or similar software
  • Previous design experience, preferred.
  • Technical Aptitude: Demonstrated understanding of mechanical and structural systems, with an eagerness to learn and develop reliability-focused skills.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and diagnostic skills, with a structured approach to identifying and resolving issues
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • 40 hours/week, full-time
