Controls Engineer - Electrical

East/North Haven, CT (our brand new North Haven plant should be completed this year)

May be eligible for relocation assistance in the form of a sign-on bonus

The Controls Engineer works on a team comprised of Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, Plant and Sales individuals to design and build custom ASCO Power Automated Transfer Switch products for a variety of clients. No two projects will be the same and this person will be involved with the entire project lifecycle from initial design services until final commissioning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Produce required documentation for fabrication purposes by researching custom specifications, industry standards and evaluating manufacturing and assembly methods and materials.
  • Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  • Resolves differences between design and fabrication requirements by making determinations such as modifying design verses sending parts back to the vendor.
  • Works with Test in troubleshooting designs and completing projects by freely and openly collaborating with Test Technicians.
  • Maintains Product and company reputation by complying with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Expected to work with assistance from other sources such as engineering, project management, purchasing etc,... With more experience, limited assistance is expected.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (Electrical)
  • Evaluates assigned projects by designing and conducting research around custom specifications and applying degreed level knowledge of electricity and materials.
  • Releases projects to manufacturing by assembling bill of materials, generating electrical schematics, point to point interconnects and developing application specific programs and description of operation.
  • Maintains drawing and program revisions by issuing Engineering Change Notices.
  • May be required to represent assigned engineering functions during Factory Witness Tests.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Travel potential up to 25% may be required (not usually right away).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Three or more years of professional experience in OEM design activities, PLC programming, meeting schedules and providing technical support.
  • Must have Electrical experience with Switchgear or Automated Transfer Switch (ATS) (ASCO Power experience preferred).
  • Thorough understanding of the fundamental concepts involved in electrical circuit design, Power Systems, Digital Logic and basic Protective Relaying applications.
  • PLC configuration (part of the interview process includes testing on this).
  • SCADA or Wonderware experience preferred.
  • AutoCAD, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, File Management Software, Jobscope/JDE, Promis-E Software, Ladder Logic and GE Proficy Software.
  • Awareness and understanding of applicable codes, including NEC, NFPA110, UL508, UL891, UL1008 and UL1558.
  • Strong Work Ethic: Self-motivated and dedicated to completing the task at hand regardless of setbacks.
  • KEY SKILLS: Positive Attitude, Flexible, Remains calm under pressure and Coachable.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE (Electrical):
  • 4 year engineering degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering.
