Job Description

Test Engineer - Surgical Robotics (Cambridge, MA)

We are seeking a Test Engineer who will contribute to a breakthrough surgical robotic solution that revolutionizes minimally invasive image-guided therapies for patients undergoing complex life-saving endovascular procedures.

Your role:

  • Work on a collaborative, interdisciplinary, and experienced robotics R&D team, tasked with inventing and launching the next generation of medical therapeutic solutions for Philips' Image Guided Therapies business. You will work in state-of-the-art R&D labs located at the Philips Innovation Campus in Cambridge, MA.
  • You will work with senior R&D engineers on verification of control software for our novel medical robotics platform. You will use robotic hardware/software verification techniques to specify, design, and build testbeds, execute manual and automatic test protocols; and report defects, track re-verification and closing of tests.
  • You will utilize your proficiency in systems thinking and testing to verify requirements for motion precision, control latency, collisions, and expected behavior (safety, workflow logic). This includes designing test protocols, and build testing hardware with motion tracking systems, custom test jigs, and developing related test and data analysis software (Python).

You're the right fit if:

  • You've acquired 3+ years of professional experience in Robotics/Software Testing, and ideally, experience in the development of medical devices or in a regulated industry.
  • Your skills include experience with control systems, robotics forward/inverse kinematics, trajectory generation, and geometric calibration as well as experience in test protocols design for verifying software requirements in hardware systems.
  • You have experience working with complex robotics or related industrial automation software-driven motion systems and have worked with Python and C++ software in embedded systems. You must be able to create HW test automation infrastructure, and plan for automated regression testing.
  • You have a BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent - however, candidates at advanced education levels are encouraged to apply.
  • You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position.
  • You've worked with Systems, Mechanical, Electrical and Software engineers when discovering, documenting, and debugging integration issues, preferably in a medical device setting.
