Georgia Southern University is currently looking to hire a Systems Software Developer, Intermediate on a full-time, permanent basis. This position offers the flexibility to work remotely, however, all work must be performed out of either Georgia state, Florida state, or South Carolina state. Occasional travel to Statesboro, GA will also be required (approximately once per quarter).

Job Summary:

The Systems Software Developer, Intermediate will be a part of the Division of Information Technology Services and will work closely with business analysts and other technical resources to develop and enhance systems and programs to improve processes and service delivery. The incumbent will be responsible for research, design, development, documentation, testing, implementation and maintenance of application programs, systems and interfaces. Should possess expert knowledge and competence in core technologies used by the University.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Identify areas for modification/enhancement in existing applications and subsequently develop these modifications
  • Write and maintain software code, queries, reports, and programs applications using current tools and languages
  • Apply proven analytical and problem-solving skills to help validate, verify, communicate, and resolve systems/software application issues
  • Provide consultation to technical resources regarding upgrades, appropriate usage, and the technical environment
  • Monitor version requirements and organize upgrades
  • Consult with business analysts, and if appropriate functional users, to analyze requirements, recommend technical design and specifications, and clarify work requests and implementation plans
  • Develop technical specifications after reviewing provided functional specifications and analyzing user application programming requests
  • Prepare technical, operational, and user related documentation, provide technical support and training to functional users
  • May be assigned as the technical expert for a specific technology or software system like workflow, document imaging, and management, integration services, data warehouse, Student Information System (Banner), or job scheduling
  • Understand high-level architectural design and patterns

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree OR four (4) or more years of related work experience
  • 3-5+ years experience in full stack software development
  • Experience with programming language such as Node, Typescript, Go/Golang, and/or other similar programming languages
  • Experience working with web, application and database servers, such as Apache, Nginx, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and/or GraphQL
  • Experience integrating open source and commercial systems using APIs and REST web services
  • Working knowledge of DevOps principles (CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Proven agility and experience with operating systems for PC and Mac
  • Experience with managing and maintaining virtual servers on VMware vCenter Infrastructure and Public IaaS
  • Creative in problem-solving
  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills

 

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in Ellucian Banner development, or Oracle development using PL/SQL
  • Experience with SSO and SAML
  • Knowledge/experience with Headless CMS
