Job Description

An Airborne Sensor Operator (CA), also known as an Airborne Surveillance Specialist, is responsible for operating and maintaining various sensor systems aboard aircraft. They work closely with pilots and mission commanders to collect and analyze data for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance purposes.

Essential Functions

  • Operate a combination of E/O IR sensors, mapping systems, and communications equipment to include troubleshooting mission equipment issues that may arise during mission operation
  • Responsible for data acquisition of fire incident mission equipment suite providing analysis and dissemination of multi-source collections
  • Apply system knowledge and analysis techniques, procedures, and coordinate with customers, hardware team, software team, and functional experts within AEVEX to maximize mission effectiveness
  • Use a combination of maturity, skill, CRM, and experience to function safely and effectively as an aircrew member in a temporary flight restriction (TFR) and Fire Traffic Area (FTA) environment for fire incidents
  • Conduct operational checks of mission and communications equipment as required
  • Responsible for the design, development, documentation, and testing of fielded and prototypes based on customer or engineering design specifications
  • Execute all assigned pre-flight, mission flight, and post-flight duties as required to safely and effectively operate mission systems supporting initial/extended attack. This includes mission planning, pre-briefings, mission system inspection, operation, troubleshooting, post-flight inspections, debriefings, fire activity product preparation and distribution, and mission documentation
  • Responsible for the documentation, testing, and/or modification of computer configurations and mission operating systems
  • Perform sensor upgrades, mission system maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Maintain supporting team updated on systems status and requires maintenance actions as well as reporting spares necessary to maintain an operational readiness
  • Liaison with the program management team, customers, and other stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient mission accomplishment.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Aircraft ICS communication experience required.
  • SATCOM and data link experience required.
  • Air-to-air and Air-to-Ground communication coordination experience required.
  • Relevant ISR or IAA mission/intelligence product support experience required.
  • Full Motion Video (FMV) i.e. FLIR 380HD/HDc, MX-15/20/25 or similar experience required.
  • Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) software i.e. ArcMap, Google Earth, or similar experience required.
  • Comfortable with Windows environments and Microsoft tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Manned aviation experience required (C-12, P3, DHC-8, KA, etc.).
  • Detail-oriented and capable of working in a team environment.
  • Experience with the United States Forest Service or similar agencies desired.

Education / Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Have or be able to obtain an FAA Class II medical certificate or military equivalent

Experience

  • Three years experience at Airborne Sensor Operations (manned) desired

AEVEX provides a reasonable range of compensation. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific location. The range of starting pay for this position is for the listed location only.

Salary Range
$55.58 $55.58 USD
