CDI Specialist | 3 years of experience | Remote | Contract
Walker Healthforce is seeking a CDI Specialist with 3+ years of experience for a healthcare client located remotely. This is a 12-month contract position with potential for extension.
Start Date: ASAP
CORE JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of CDI experience (Trauma, Transplants)
- 2+ Years in an Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist (ICDIS) role
- Experience in large, complex facilities
- Skilled at reviewing and documenting patient medical records
- Experience facilitating proper coding
- Flexible, adaptable, and willing to meet evolving needs (100% production)
LICENSING/CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must hold at least one of the following credentials:
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P)
- International or Domestic Medical Degree
- Must hold at least one of the following certifications:
- Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS)
- Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP)
WE CONSIDER IT A BONUS IF YOU ALSO HAVE:
- Experience with 3M 360, Optum, and Epic
- DRG validation or DRG auditor experience
- CCS and/or CRC certification
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reviewing and documenting patient medical records and facilitate proper coding
- Effectively communicating and collaborating with physicians, management and other members of the healthcare team
- Leveraging advanced knowledge of disease processes (pathophysiology), medications, and have critical thinking skills to analyze current documentation to identify gaps
- Validating coding to reflect medical necessity of services and facilities, ensuring accuracy and completion
- Identifying opportunities in concurrent and retrospective inpatient clinical medical documentation to support quality and effective coding
- Applying regulatory compliance related to documentation, coding and billing for all health insurance plans
- Facilitating appropriate modifications to documentation through extensive interactions and collaboration with physicians, coding, case management, nursing and other care givers
- Serving as a change agent, educator, and resource for physicians and allied health staff to improve the quality and completeness of the clinical documentation
- Ensuring all duties are performed in accordance with ethical and legal business procedures, compliant with federal and state statutes and regulations, official coding rules, guidelines, and accepted standards
