Koch Capabilities is building something new and valuable, a data platform that enables efficient and repeatable process transformation across our enterprise and makes many types of data available for automation that was not previously possible. Developing this new platform in support of our Innovation Vision will be critical to our success at Koch Industries. The Build Engineer role is a key part of the Platform Delivery team. This role will be working closely with Data Engineers from different data product teams and will operate the daily build lifecycle, resolve issues in the DBT (Data Build Tool) project mesh and communicate defects and prospective resolutions to the data engineering teams. You will maintain responsibility for daily development testing, defect resolution, development best practices. You will collaborate with architecture and software engineering teams to design and implement DBT macros to drive reusability and development efficiencies in our data engineering processes. You will evaluate and recommend implementation patterns for new DBT and Snowflake performance related tools.

The successful candidate must be self-directed, able to manage multiple projects, lead teams, seek out opportunities to modernize processes, set priorities and meet deadlines.

What You Will Do

As a Build Engineer on our team, your major responsibilities will include:

  • Own the release cycle for running DBT builds into the platform.
  • Ensure that defects and bugs are communicated and mitigated while partnering with the data engineer.
  • Communicating impact and resolution of defects and bugs.
  • Own the QA process.
  • Identify patterns for solution and code reusability and scaling.
  • Identify data quality measures to improve data product stability.
  • Be an escalation point on issues specific to DBT and its adoption.
  • Create product documentation and quality standards.
  • Improve testing processes and data validation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and solve complex problems.


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Experience with DBT (Data Build Tool) or a similar data transformation tool.
  • Experience owning the software release cycle and mitigating technical and business conflicts.
  • Experience collaborating with and communicating across a broader working team with varying levels of technology experience.
  • Experience with software and data engineering development lifecycles.
  • Experience with Azure Dev Ops or a similar Agile Lifecycle Management tool.
  • Strong understanding of Data Governance, Security, and Compliance requirements in a cloud environment.
  • Must have analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.


What Will Put You Ahead

  • 4+ years strong hands-on experience in Data Engineering using Snowflake, DBT, Python Data Frame programing models (Pandas and Snowpark).
  • Up to date knowledge of DBT Mesh, Packages and the DBT roadmap.
  • SnowPro Core Certification.
  • Experience with CICD and code promotion specifically using DBT, Snowflake and GIT
  • Experience with Snowflake performance best practices and monitoring.
  • Experience with Sigma Computing.
  • Experience with multiple SQL dialects and/or PySpark.
