Job Details

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the New Shepard program. New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Krmn line - the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will be responsible for flight control and actuated systems of the New Shepard reusable launch vehicle. You will participate in the entire design cycle including system architecture, requirements derivation, conceptual and detailed design, system performance modeling, structural analysis, manufacturing and integration support, development testing, and qualification. You will participate in definition of component groups (e.g., hydraulic and electro-mechanical actuators, mechanisms, valves, manifolds, piping, and sensors) including design, specification, procurement, processing, testing, and discrepancy resolution of specific components. Additionally, you will identify and implement design changes to improve system reliability and reduce operational cost, participate in verification audits of existing components and subsystems, and participate in component and subsystem level testing including planning, execution, data reduction, and analysis.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

    • Servo controlled hydraulic actuation.
    • Electro-mechanical actuation.
    • Mechanisms to deploy, lock, position, or similar application for high-reliability systems.
    • Common aerospace structural materials and surface treatments.
    • High-pressure fluid fittings, static seals, and dynamic actuator seals.
    • Hydraulic and fluid systems modeling and analysis.
    • Aerospace systems engineering principles and processes including requirements derivation, and verification planning and execution.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD programs such as NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, Creo, Pro/E, etc.
  • Experience in analysis including hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Experience with GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5).
