Job Details

Title: VMware Systems Engineer
Location: NYC Long Island (Initially Remote)
Duration: 12 Months with possible extension

Location: Remote (Preferable local candidate from Long Island, NY)

Infrastructure design and implementation:
Design and architect the vSphere environment based on business needs.
Install and configure VMware ESXi hosts on physical servers.
Set up vCenter Server for centralized management of the vSphere environment.
Configure virtual networks, storage, and security policies.
Virtual machine management:
Create, deploy, and manage virtual machines (VMs).
Allocate resources (CPU, memory, storage) to VMs.
Perform VM lifecycle operations like powering on/off, suspending, migrating, and cloning.
Manage VM snapshots and backups
Performance monitoring and troubleshooting:
o Monitor vSphere environment for performance issues (CPU usage, memory utilization, network bandwidth)
o Identify and troubleshoot hardware and software problems within the virtual environment
o Analyze resource utilization and optimize performance
Capacity planning:
o Proactively assess future resource needs and plan for capacity expansion
o Monitor storage and compute resource usage to avoid potential bottlenecks
Patch management and upgrades:
o Apply updates and patches to ESXi hosts and vCenter Server
o Manage upgrade cycles for the vSphere environment
Security management:
o Implement security best practices within the vSphere environment
o Configure access controls and user permissions
o Monitor for potential security threats
Collaboration and support:
o Work with other IT teams to ensure smooth integration with the overall infrastructure
o Provide technical support to users regarding virtual machine issues

Years of experience needed 10 + years
Technical Expertise:
Strong understanding of IT infrastructure components such as servers, networks, storage, security systems, and operating systems.
Change Management Methodology:
Proficiency in ITIL or other recognized change management frameworks, including knowledge of best practices for managing change.
Communication Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.


Analytical Skills:
Ability to analyze potential impacts of changes, identify risks, and make informed decisions.
Stakeholder Management:
Proven ability to build relationships with key stakeholders across different departments and manage expectations effectively.
Problem-solving:
Strong problem-solving skills to address challenges that arise during the change implementation process.


Project Management:
Basic project management skills to plan, execute, and monitor change initiatives.
Leadership:
Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams to achieve successful change outcomes
