Job Description:

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is actively looking fora Senior Engineering Manager at our Superior Township, MI facility. This roleentails leading a newly established R&D department dedicated to advancingvehicle software development. The department's mission is to spearhead innovativeprojects focused on Electric & Electronic systems software for thenext-generation vehicle software architecture. The Senior Engineering Managerwill report directly to the Director of the Vehicle SW Development Group.

Core Responsibilities

Work with the director to establish a newengineering department, defining its organizational structure, keycompetencies, roles, and responsibilities for all department positions.

Establish departmental goals and objectives inalignment with the group's strategic direction. Develop both short andlong-term operational and growth plans.

Recruit engineering managers and staffs tocreate multiple project units and build the necessary engineering capabilitiesfor the team's development projects.

Efficiently manage departmental resources andbudget allocation. Assign engineering projects to individual project units andcontinuously evaluate and enhance their performance.

Proactively initiate and oversee new engineeringprojects, driving engagement, execution, and delivering tangible results towardproduction applications.

Oversee the progress of programs and provideexecutive presentations highlighting key development milestones andachievements.

Contribute to the group's resource planning,goal-setting, and technology roadmap development.

Foster inter-team collaboration and knowledgesharing through transparent and timely communication.

Cultivate new partnerships with external projectpartners, including universities, national labs, and tech suppliers. Introducenovel technologies and methods into production development.

Stay updated on emerging technologies andcompetitive products to drive innovation.

Maintain a positive, collaborative, and innovativework environment.

Offer in-depth technical support for pre- andpost-production issues.

Lead and drive engineering projects related tovarious areas, including:

  • Developingnew or improved software functions for vehicle E&E systems, including in-vehiclenetwork management systems and OTA platforms
  • Developingand proposing SW design and strategy aligned with zonal E&E architecture
  • Developingvirtualized SW framework for vehicle body control and service scenarios
  • Creatingnew FOD contents targeting North American market customers
  • Localizingglobal vehicle software contents
  • Creatingproof of concept for newly developed functions/contents and proposing them forproduction programs
  • Collaboratingwith vehicle test organizations for testing and validating new functions
  • Conductingcompetitor system benchmarking, industry technology sensing, and trend analysis

Travel both domestically and internationally, upto 20% of your time.

Basic Qualifications

B.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field or a combination of education and equivalent experience

Minimum 10 years of experience in an automotive or embedded product development

Minimum 3 years of people management experience as an engineering manager or a supervisor

A track record of engineering project leadership related to any aspects of vehicle SW, from concept development to production system integration

Software development experience in vehicle Electric & Electronic systems, car body controllers, consumer electronics, or related products

Understanding of automotive communication protocols and network systems (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.) and instrumentation/operation of data acquisition systems such as ETAS/INCA and Vector/CANoe

Able to adapt to agile work scope with shifting priorities, demands, and timelines

Comfortable with blank-slate initiatives as well as on-going established projects

Good communication skills and ability to develop/keep good relationship with tech experts from R&D Center and internal counterpart teams

Preferred Qualifications

M.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field or a combination of education and equivalent experience

Experience in production SW lifecycle including requirements, system design, development, and maintenance of the embedded software for vehicle systems

Experience in automotive Software Requirements Specifications for in-vehicle network management, BCM, or OTA system SW

Understanding of automotive E&E system and domain/zonal control architecture

Familiarity with classic and adaptive AUTOSAR

Proficiency in programing language such as Java, C, and C++

Knowledge in Agile, Waterfall, and DevOps software development processes and tools
