We are seeking a Systems Engineer to join our team in Ashburn, Virginia.
Qualified applicants may be subject to a security investigation and must meet minimum qualifications for access to classified information. This is a highly technical position; individuals will be screened by peers in a technical review of skills and experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Unissant is seeking a mid-level Systems Engineer to support the ongoing modernization and maintenance systems for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day planning, scheduling, tracking and reporting for software development projects using Java technologies. The candidate will be responsible for:
- Coordinating the delivery of multiple projects and dependencies being executed by other teams within the organization
- Allocating and/or tracking resources across multiple projects
- Working knowledge of SELC and associated documentation (project plans, charters, business cases, requirements documents, test plans, reports, etc.)
- Creating project plans and managing them accordingly
- Working closely with business and solution resources on lifecycle deliverables
- Generating weekly status reports in several formats
- Working with clients to gather requirements. Interpret and translate the captured technical and functional requirements into technical documentation that can be used by both the project management team and the development teams to develop the end user software using Java technologies
- Coordinate with various organizations and teams within the enterprise to ensure that all the activities and dependencies are being met by matrixed resources and other teams responsible for delivery within the organization
- Document project risks and mitigation plans and communicate to the stakeholders
- Ensure all the processes are documented and followed for compliance
- Contribute to project scoping, including requirement assessment, best practices, application design and development, methodologies, and budget recommendations
Work Experience and Job Skills:
- 5-10 years of professional experience, preferably supporting Federal Government projects and programs.
- 2+ years in Agile Development projects - ability to demonstrate a strong working knowledge of Agile/Scrum Methodologies.
- 5+ years of demonstrated Architectural Design experience.
- Familiar with SQL preferably PL/SQL
- Familiarity with data analysis and good understanding of data modeling concepts
- Experience with developing SELC documents
- Strong attention to detail, highly organized and able to thrive in a busy, deadline driven atmosphere.
- Prior experience as a developer is a plus for the job.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field with applicable experience is required. Applicable work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
- This federal program requires the candidates to be a United States Citizen
- Must have a current CBP BI clearance or be eligible to obtain one.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification a plus
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM) Certification a plus
- Any related systems engineering, or related technical certifications are desired
Communication Skills:
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills coupled with strong listening skills.
- Solid ability to interface, inspire and motivate at various levels of the organization.
- Must have strong technical communication skills.
- Ability to convey technical information to non-technical individuals.
- Demonstrated experience communicating effectively across internal and external organizations.
- Must work well in a matrixed team environment. .
Travel:
- This is an onsite position in Ashburn, VA at least once a week.
Environmental Requirements:
- Mainly sedentary; in an office environment
- May be required to lift up to ten (10) pounds
- Flexible in working extended hours
