Staff Engineer, Reliability

Play a meaningful role in the development of new life sciences technology as a Staff Reliability Engineer in the Reliability Engineering team within R&D, enabling our products to realize their promise to improve human health. Guide project teams through reliability specification, Design for Reliability (DFR), reliability test planning and execution, defect prioritization, failure analysis, root cause investigation, corrective action implementation, and final validation. Assess program and technical risk through data-driven statistical analysis. Be a facilitator of standard methodologies to ensure robust design through multi-functional collaboration, alignment, and transparency. Be an ambassador of customer experience, design quality, and reliability. Primary duties include the following:
  • Lead all aspects of and supervise multiple reliability projects.
  • Provide reliability risk assessments to multi-functional teams and executive leadership.
  • Build and implement reliability program plans to efficiently mitigate risks in new product designs.
  • Apply Design for Reliability (DFR) tools such as Reliability Allocation Model, FMEA to assess and mitigate risks. Facilitate and drive multidisciplinary discussions to evaluate technical risk through FMEA
  • Develop and implement component-level, subsystem-level, and system-level reliability test plans improving internal and external resources. Record, prioritize, and lead large amounts of detailed test data. Methodically analyze test data and interpret results for critical reliability decision-making.
  • Perform failure analysis for reliability issues using analytical problem-solving methodology. Drive root cause investigations, guide product team to corrective action identification, implementation, and validation.
  • Call out top issues by providing clear, well-structured, high-level updates.
  • Feed forward lessons learned from field data to new product designs.
  • Be a champion for reliability standard methodologies in R&D.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering or related field
  • A minimum of 8 years of reliability engineering experience including reliability risk assessments, implementation of reliability program plans.
  • Knowledge of reliability fundamentals and experience in reliability techniques including Reliability Allocation Model, FMEA, FTA, Accelerated life testing including HALT, statistical analysis such as Weibull analysis. Experience with data analysis using statistical softwares.
  • Validated technical writing ability for preparation of plans and reports.
  • Attention to detail, consistent track record to work efficiently in large multi-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication skills at technical and program level.
  • Willingness to prepare blood samples for testing (training will be provided).

In addition to the above minimum qualifications, the following are considered desirable:
  • Master's degree or PhD in engineering or related subject area.
  • 10-12 years of experience working in reliability subject area.
  • Knowledge of fluidics, optics, and electronics.
  • Experience with test automation (Labview, Arduino, etc).
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize test and measurement equipment.
  • Sophisticated statistical knowledge, especially related to six sigma tools and methodology, design of experiments, and reliability modeling.
  • Experience managing large sets of data using data processing tools such as Minitab, MATLAB, JMP, or R.
