At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

We are a diverse team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a safe environment. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin's vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers and specialists, you will be responsible for developing and supporting the New Glenn rocket assembly processes. New Glenn is a single-configuration heavy-lift launch vehicle capable of carrying people and payloads routinely to Earth orbit and beyond. Featuring a reusable first stage built for 25 missions, New Glenn will build a road to space. You will directly support New Glenn's as well as Blue Origin's success by leading the development of the manufacturing bill of materials, work instructions, design for manufacturability, non-conformance processing, and process specifications. Including creating, interpreting, and modifying work instructions to convey procedures to technicians and trigger material planning. Throughout the manufacturing process, you will also identify, develop, and deploy methods to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build sequences and schedules.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, lead with a commitment to quality, and positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop manufacturing work instructions to clearly define manufacturing process: fabrication, assembly, test, integration, and refurbishment.
  • Closely manage quality, build sequence, and schedule of hardware throughout the entire manufacturing process.
  • Perform engineering drawing review and provide final approval for manufacturing.
  • Define and support repair and rework activities.
  • Perform root cause analyses when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions.
  • Design proper material handling and packaging to protect hardware throughout the build and test process.
  • Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire build and test process.
  • Perform process mapping to identify improvements and drive high rates of production

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Materials, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant engineering fields may apply) from an accredited university.
  • 5+ years, minimum, of direct manufacturing and manufacturing engineering experience.

  • Self-directed and able to balance several tasks at once
  • Understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing.
  • Experience prioritizing hardware procurement and fabrication and communicating these priorities to the team.
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc).
  • Ability to develop processes compliant with industry quality systems such as AS9100.
  • Extremely customer-focused with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skills across large geographic distances.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

Must be physically able to:
  • Support production floor activities.
  • Climb stairs and work in small areas.
  • Lift and carry 40 lbs.

Shift days and times subject to change based on schedule and business needs

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with Thermal Protection systems in space environments
  • Experience with surface preparation and adhesive bonding of components to airframe structures (metallic and composite)
  • Familiarity with vacuum bonding
  • Familiarity with application of spray on foam insulation (SOFI)
  • Experience with aircraft, launch vehicle or spacecraft production
  • Proficient in writing work instructions at a high pace.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E & Catia preferred).

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

Inclusivity Statement
