Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI)'s Regulation Certification & Compliance Department is the control tower for compliance, and compliance activities, related to U.S. EPA and CARB regulations for all U.S. market Hyundai and Kia vehicles. It has final authority over field issue reporting, investigating, remedy approval, and if needed emission vehicle recalls.

The department is seeking a process oriented, and results driven leader for its Emission Compliance Team (ECT), whose goal is to identify potential field issues quickly and systematically; collaborate with engineering, quality, and legal teams in the U.S. and South Korea; and provide when needed remedies as quickly as possible. The Senior Manager position will be located at HATCI headquarters near Ann Arbor, MI.

ECT has four areas of focus, Data Analysis, Data Review, Technical Review, and support of the Emission Compliance Committee (ECC) decision making.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • A proven disciplined and organized leader capable of delivering results; strengthening the team; and communicating effectively - PMP Certification preferred.
  • Data Analysis involves assessment of test results and other data and assignment of case tier ratings from areas such as durability, IUVP, IUMPR, emission parts warranty, & emission service campaign.
  • Data Review includes further analysis of tier 1, 2 & 3 cases for escalation, action, or tier adjustment.
  • Tier 4 & 5 cases receive Technical Review which typically consists of component evaluation and vehicle emission testing investigation, performed or directed by ECT.
  • Inform, support, and advise Decision Making by the Emission Compliance Committee.
  • Report and communicate with EPA and CARB.
  • Plan, monitor, and manage the team's budgets.
  • Create and present technical reports and provide expert advice as needed.
  • Perform administrative functions such as purchasing requests, timecard, vacation requests, travel requests, etc.
  • Travel as needed domestically and internationally.

Education and Experience

  • More than ten (10) years of experience in emission compliance engineering and/or investigation.
  • More than five (5) years of experience leading a team with diverse, consequential, and time-critical responsibilities.
  • Extensive knowledge and expert experience with governmental regulations, relationships, certification, or compliance.
  • Technical automotive knowledge required; B.S. in Engineering/Science or a J.D. in law preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License with satisfactory driving record
