Tesla's Energy Engineering group seeks a highly motivated individual to program manage both existing and new design engineering initiatives for the Solar program. This cross-functional role requires coordination among various groups within and outside of Tesla. You will interface with design engineering, manufacturing engineering and operations, supply chain, compliance, reliability, and field operations to drive the development of new product programs and manage changes to existing programs.
As part of the design engineering team, you will be deeply involved in the design and manufacturing engineering processes, shepherding projects from concept through prototype validation to production ramp. Your engineering background will be crucial in understanding product and manufacturing requirements, assessing technical risks, and developing validation strategies to accelerate development and manufacturing processes. You will communicate and present project status, highlight schedule risks, and develop recovery plans for any project delays.
As an Engineering Program Manager, you will operate with a high degree of autonomy on your programs while contributing to the development of tools and processes that enhance organizational productivity.
You will be based in the Bay Area (Fremont) with some travel to our manufacturing facilities in California or Nevada as needed.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Operations, Facilities and Construction, Reliability, Test, Supply Chain, and other supporting functions to identify and scope projects for key solar and residential product design and manufacturing
- Manage product cost reduction and quality improvement initiatives
- Create, maintain, communicate, and present schedules for design and manufacturing engineering projects to the engineering leadership team
- Prioritize the engineering team's work based on risk, resources, and potential return.
- Identify innovative solutions to overcome obstacles and adhere to schedules despite setbacks
- Define processes to enhance risk and change management
Requirements
- Proven experience in managing engineering projects for mass-produced products
- Experience with the engineering product design cycle, manufacturing line setup, and ramp-up to mass production
- Expertise in creating, maintaining, and communicating project schedules
- Strong understanding of multilevel Bill of Material hierarchy, including hardware and software components
- Comprehensive knowledge of the product release cycle, particularly in relation to the creation and change management of parts and BOM structures
- Ability to inspire confidence across multiple layers of management, from executives to associates
- Detail-oriented with excellent record-keeping and organizational skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, production, and supply chain teams
- Degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or a related field) or equivalent experience

$100,000 - $216,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
