Walker Healthforce is seeking a CDI Specialist for a healthcare client located remotely. This is a contract position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct concurrent and retrospective inpatient medical record reviews to ensure accurate documentation of diagnoses, severity of illness (SOI), risk of mortality (ROM), and overall complexity of care
- Prioritize reconciliation of ICDI reviews over new cases to maintain accuracy and completeness in clinical documentation
- Identify and validate clinical indicators supporting appropriate diagnosis coding and severity levels
- Work closely with physicians and other healthcare team members to clarify and improve documentation through concurrent physician queries and retrospective follow-ups
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, hospital policies, and official coding guidelines to maintain accurate health records
- Monitor and capture weekend patient stays across all service lines, ensuring documentation completeness
- Collaborate with coding, case management, and quality teams to improve healthcare reporting and reimbursement accuracy
- Assist in educating physicians, coders, and healthcare professionals on documentation best practices
- Utilize advanced knowledge of pathophysiology, disease processes, and medications to analyze and assess medical records for proper clinical documentation
- Participate in audits, data reporting, and quality improvement initiatives
- Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Must hold at least one of the following credentials:
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P)
- International or Domestic Medical Degree
- Must hold at least one of the following certifications:
- Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS)
- Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP)
- 2 years of experience in an Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist (ICDIS) role- Need recent experience of ICDI within last 12 months
- Experience reviewing and documenting patient medical records and facilitate proper coding
- Effective communication and collaboration skills present ideas and concepts effectively to physicians, management and other members of our healthcare team
- Ability to work mandatory overtime when business needs arise
