Job Description
We are looking for a Lab Project Lead to join our lab team. Our engineering lab serves as the foundation upon which our engineers use to test new technologies and products for data centers. The Lab Project Lead will be responsible for managing lab projects end-to-end (e.g.building testbeds, testing, testbed removal). The Lab Project Lead will also be responsible for lab infrastructure projects (e.g. lab network, electrical infrastructure enhancement). The candidate will need to be experienced in diverse technical sectors such as electrical, mechanical, building structural, network connectivity, and controls. An ability to effectively collaborate with multiple entities such as engineers, vendors, contractors, and facility operations personnel is a must.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead testbed installation, systems integration, testing, and decom activities of mechanical, electrical, control systems, building structure, network connectivity technologies, and products in the Lab
Led lab infrastructure projects (e.g. deploy and maintain lab network by working with the Client Network and Server teams).
Work closely with Client engineers, Technical Program Managers, third-party vendors, and lab personnel to drive high-impact lab projects to successful completion.
Lead a complex project and establish a solid project around it with defined goals, project charter, roadmaps, metrics, communication plan, roles & responsibilities, status reports, etc.
Strong problem-solving capability to proactively remove blockers in projects.
Provide hands-on help and tactical project management during new hardware development, equipment procurement/delivery, and installation, infrastructure & network readiness while new testbeds are being built.
Manage equipment(e.g racks) receiving and delivery with the vendor and the lab team.
Must be able to drive and operate forklifts, Big Joe, and other lifts in the lab. Or at least be willing to be trained and operate lifts daily.
Be able to manage multiple lab projects simultaneously.
Work with engineers and technicians to develop test plans and SOP.
Strong communication with cross-functional teams on project status updates, risks, budget, timeline etc.
Strong capability using tools such as Google Drive and GSuite, MS Office including Outlook, Powerpoint, Project, Excel, Word, Sharepoint, wiki, etc.
Comfortable working in an unstructured environment.
Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and reliability of testbed build and lab infrastructure through tooling and process improvements.
Communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Work with vendors, contractors, XFN partners, Safety Manager to ensure work is in accordance with the agreed Client processes, procedures, and standards.
Required to work onsite M-F 8am-5 pm except holidays and personal time off.
Regularly walk job site areas of flat and uneven terrain
Qualifications:
Technical understanding of data center mechanical, electrical, building structural, controls, networking and infrastructure technologies. 10+ years experience in electrical,
HVAC, mechanical, controls, or network connectivity construction or critical facility maintenance fields preferred.
5+ years experience in a team or XFN team management. Interpersonal skills, including relationship building and collaboration within diverse and cross-functional teams.
Working experience with the rollout of lab infrastructure, test beds, and test lanes, delivering on SLA, troubleshooting, escalation, and working with 3rd party vendors.
Vendor management and contracts experience.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and G Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, G Drive,
Powerpoint with good computer skills
Experience managing and reporting tasks and project status, "roll up the sleeves" to accomplish all necessary tasks.
Effective communication skills both in written and verbal
Demonstrated strong interests and experience adapting and learning new technologies and skill sets.
Action-orientated with the experience of getting things done by overcoming obstacles and developing solutions to problems.
Associate's degree in engineering plus 8+ years experience or Bachelor's degree in related Field plus 5+ years experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical, or controls will be considered in lieu of 10+ years experience or High school diploma or equivalent (i.e. GED) with 10+ years of experience
