About This Role:
The Automation Software Engineer will play a critical role in designing, developing, and optimizing new automation technologies for chemistry workflows. This includes transitioning development-stage software into commercial-ready applications, collaborating with chemistry and hardware teams, and integrating automation systems with laboratory processes. The ideal candidate will have experience in laboratory automation, software development, and chemical processes.
Position Responsibilities:
- Application Development:
- Develop applications for operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining chemical automation technologies (e.g., DirectInject-LC, self-driving labs).
- Transition development-stage software into commercial-ready applications, ensuring ease of use and robustness.
- Automation Technology Development:
- Collaborate with hardware and chemistry teams to design, develop, and optimize automation technologies for chemistry workflows.
- Enhance hardware and software modules for automated chemical synthesis, analysis, and sample translocation.
- Develop and implement experimental protocols for testing new automation technologies.
- Systems Integration and Maintenance:
- Oversee software integration of automation systems with existing laboratory equipment and processes.
- Technical Communication:
- Prepare research presentations, data visualizations, and technical proposals.
- Work with colleagues on data curation and visualization.
- Lab Safety:
- Adhere to safety protocols for chemical material handling, environmental management, and safety record maintenance.
Minimum Qualifications for Consideration:
- Undergraduate degree in Software Engineering, Automation Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Master s or doctoral degree in a relevant discipline, or 2+ years of relevant work experience.
- 1+ years of experience in designing and implementing automation technologies, ideally in a laboratory setting.
- 1+ years of experience interfacing with APIs and debugging code.
- Proficiency with Python and Windows .NET framework.
Qualifications Useful for This Role/Level:
- Background in Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Laboratory Automation, or Analytical Chemistry.
- Experience with C++, C#, Linux environments, UPLC/HPLC instruments, and Chromatography Data Systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Employment Authorization:
This position offers VISA sponsorship, and relocation assistance within Canada is available.
Remote Work Eligibility:
This position is ineligible for remote work. Candidates must reside within Vancouver, BC, or be willing to relocate. Employer will provide relocation assistance within Canada.
Shift Details:
This position is on 1st shift, primarily scheduled Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. Schedule flexibility may be discussed at the time of offer.
