Location: Polk County, Iowa-Onsite
Job Type: Contract
Job Summary:
The Datacenter RunOps Network Repair team is responsible for supporting all production network cabling within the Data Center. This is a truly global team offering a unique career opportunity to work with the latest network technologies and talented engineers solving some of the most complex problems in the industry.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Cabling & Termination:
- Must have basic copper termination skills.
- Mount and install racks, patch panels, fiber optic equipment, and hardware.
- Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cables as required.
- Perform cable testing: continuity testing for horizontal and riser cables using volt-ohmmeter.
- Troubleshoot issues such as opens, crosses, shorts, and transposed pairs.
- Use tone sets for cable identification.
- Terminate LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, and MPO/MTP connectors for both multi-mode and single-mode fibers.
- Terminate simplex & duplex jumper cords.
- Terminate and breakout outside plant fiber.
- Terminate indoor tight-buffered multimode and single-mode fibers.
- Install fan-out kits including buffer tubes.
- Calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards.
- Accurately complete all required paperwork including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, and tool transfers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Testing:
- Use OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO tools for fiber testing.
- Troubleshoot network issues using OTDR to identify and correct problems end-to-end and across the network.
Splicing:
- Perform mechanical and fusion splicing with all types of fiber cables.
- Conduct splices for building entrances, maintenance spaces, and direct-buried splicing.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Must be self-motivated, professional, and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Represent the company positively with clients, vendors, and partners.
- Possess problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Able to read, write, and give effective oral presentations.
- Work at heights, off ladders, and in confined spaces.
- Lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to distinguish colors, read small print, and recognize audible signals.
- Must be able to travel as needed.
Education, Certification, License, and Skills Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent (required).
- Must be proficient with industry tools.
- Skilled in terminating all connector types and methods for SMF and MMF systems (Unicam, anaerobic, heat-cure).
- Experience in testing and troubleshooting MMF & SMF systems (OTDR & PMLS).
- Preferred:
- 3 5 years of experience in fiber optic installation and maintenance.
- Industry certifications (e.g., Corning, FOA).
- Data Center installation experience.
- Mechanical and fusion splicing experience.
- OSP/Confined Space Entry experience (for splicing).
