Job Description
We seek a CAD/CAFM technician who can help Boston University (BU) Campus Planning & Operations strategically leverage information in support of the University's academic, research and student life programs. BU occupies over 15 million gross square feet in over 300 buildings on 3 primary campuses (Charles River, Medical, and Fenway) as well as over two dozen domestic and international facilities. As a key team member within Planning, Design and Construction (PDC), the CAD/CAFM technician will provide and maintain a variety of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) related drawings and files to support various University planning & operations needs.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Space Management & Systems, the CAD/CAFM technician will take a leading role to support the maintenance of the University's space and asset management information systems through (1) physical field investigations and space walkthroughs conducted at building and room levels; (2) establishing and maintaining standards, processes, and policies to ensure floor plan accuracy; (3) updating CAD plans based on changes; (4) experience using AutoCAD Map 3D, ArcGIS Pro and/or other mapping applications and (5) providing ad-hoc and custom graphics to support initiatives such as, but not limited to, Commencement and University maps.
Required Skills
The incumbent will gather facility asset information from various sources, including drawings, specifications, and site visits, to make informed recommendations.
Understanding data structures, utilizing data systems, and analyzing and presenting information to diverse audiences are key components of this role.
Additionally, creative problem-solving, strategic thinking, and a strong client service orientation are vital for success in this position.
