Job Title: COBOL Developer
Location: Onsite from day 1 in Flowood, MS ( Hybrid )
Contract Duration: 6-9 months (Contract-to-Hire)

Job Overview: We are seeking 6-8 experienced COBOL Developers to join our team at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi (BCBS of MS). The ideal candidates will have extensive health insurance experience and knowledge of claims adjudication. While experience with modern technologies like Python, AWS, C, and Linux is not required, candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn new technologies.
Top Skills Required:
- COBOL programming on a Mainframe
- CICS experience (10-15% of development will involve CICS)
- Healthcare experience, including understanding of claims adjudication, deductibles, Explanation of Benefits (EOB), out-of-pocket expenses, and various types of insurance (Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, etc.), as well as claim denial processes.
Secondary Skills (Nice to Have):
- Mainframe experience
- IBM technologies
- AS400/iSeries
Job Responsibilities:
- Work on the IBM mainframe system that handles BCBS s mission-critical claims adjudication applications.
- Ensure claims adjudicate accurately on the first pass, reducing the need for manual processing.
- Conduct periodic system updates and modifications to meet changing business requirements.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and implement COBOL-based solutions.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to team members.
- Develop and execute a strategic plan to meet system goals efficiently.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to work hybrid onsite in Jackson, MS.
- Must pass a hair follicle drug screening covering the last 6 months.
- Strong decision-making skills and confidence in technical abilities.
- Ability to set a plan and act on it with minimal supervision.
