GIS Technician San Antonio Texas / Remote Long term contract
Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented GIS Technician to support geographic information system (GIS) operations by creating, maintaining, and analyzing geospatial data. The ideal candidate will have experience with GIS software and tools, strong analytical skills, and a passion for spatial data visualization and management.
Key Responsibilities:
Create, update, and maintain GIS datasets, layers, and maps.
Perform spatial analysis to support planning, decision-making, and reporting.
Convert, import, and export data between various formats and coordinate systems.
Use GIS tools and software to analyze spatial data and produce maps and visualizations.
Perform quality control checks to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
Assist in the integration of GIS data with other business systems or applications.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and interpret geospatial requirements.
Provide technical support and training to users of GIS tools and applications.
Document workflows, procedures, and metadata for GIS data and projects.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar tools.
Experience with spatial data formats (e.g., shapefiles, geodatabases, KML, GeoJSON).
Knowledge of coordinate systems, projections, and georeferencing techniques.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel.
Familiarity with GPS data collection and processing.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with programming languages like Python, R, or SQL for GIS data manipulation.
Familiarity with web-based GIS platforms, such as ArcGIS Online or Google Earth Engine.
Knowledge of database management systems like PostgreSQL/PostGIS or SQL Server.
Experience with remote sensing, image analysis, or drone-based GIS applications.
Certification in GIS (e.g., GISP, ESRI Technical Certification) is a plus.
