POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will oversee material handling and control systems in our distribution centers. The successful candidate will be responsible for partnering with the facilities to ensure current equipment is maintained, implementing upgrades, identifying improvement opportunities to increase throughput and productivity and developing a strategic roadmap for future enhancements. It is critical that this role establishes and sustains a Center of Excellence to mentor, train, support and connect our ShipCenter Maintenance teams. Successfully driving sustainable systems improvements is only possible through strong relationships with and support of our field teams. In addition, the Controls Engineer will be the primary point of contact with Dematic, our material handling system vendor. This role requires a strong technical background in PLC's and control systems, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Position Location: Must be located near one of our 5 distribution centers (Indianapolis IN, Buckeye AZ, Forsyth GA, Pedricktown NJ, Conroe TX)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and implement plans to increase productivity, reliability, and scalability of material handling systems
Establish and maintain a Center of Excellence to train and mentor distribution center maintenance teams by developing and maintaining best practices and procedures, system diagrams and common issue/resolution actions
Be the point of contact for troubleshooting and resolution of downtime issues with the Dematic material handling system across the distribution network
Support the maintenance and troubleshooting of existing equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime
Establish KPI and supporting real-time data flows to sustain high levels of efficiency such as system up time, throughput, successful first divert rate, etc.
Perform pre-peak site assessments to identify and address any risks prior to seasonal volume spikes
Lead the execution of all required steps to review, approve and execute controls systems related work contracts at the ShipCenters (MSA, NDA, SOW).
Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations in all control system designs and operations
Partner with the facilities to optimize a spare parts catalog and ensure on hand availability
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, engineering, IT and vendor to define requirements and priorities for control system projects
Lead the design, programming, and commissioning of material handling systems for new equipment installations, upgrades and new distribution centers
Facilitate CapEx evaluations, stakeholder engagement and supporting ROI evaluations as needed
Stay current with industry trends and advancements in technology to recommend innovative solutions for continuous improvement
QUALIFICATIONS:
7 to 10+ years of experience managing and optimizing control systems in a retail distribution environment, Dematic experience required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or a related field
Proven track record of driving improved system efficiency and productivity in distribution operations
Strong technical and functional expertise of the physical and systemic components of material handling systems in a retail distribution environment
Experience implementing material handling systems in new and existing buildings
Must place the utmost importance on working safely, and maintain a safe work environment for yourself and others
Experience optimizing control systems by reviewing, assessing and improving PLC programming
Ability to read, interpret and edit AutoCAD drawings of systems
Job requires ability to work in a warehouse environment
Requires continuous, standing, walking, hearing, pushing, and pulling
This role requires an onsite facility presence, including to engage in in-person team interaction, meetings and collaboration, mentoring, coaching, and/or feedback
