Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Principal Engineer Manufacturing Systems/Senior Principal Manufacturing Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This role will be supporting our Advanced Manufacturing Technology Organization. This position will be located in St. Augustine, FL or Melbourne, FL.

As a member of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology assembly & development team, you will define, develop, and directly support and ensure the successful implementation of new solution capabilities released to production, and specification requirements to best utilize resources and manufacturing techniques. You will be managing budgets, schedules, and quality for the Assembly Manufacturing Technology thrust area and you will be the direct interface for transferring these developed technologies onto the production line with a systems integration, verification, and validation approach.

This position will require 25% travel and the qualified applicant must be able to obtain and maintain Program Special Access over multiple platforms.

In addition, you will identify and initiate corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure research and development contractual obligations (technical, schedule, and cost) are met and product quality is maintained. You will provide guidance regarding design concepts, TRL/MRL maturity, and specification requirements to best utilize resources and manufacturing techniques, and ensure processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations. This role involves interfacing with internal and external customers, program offices, engineering disciplines, and all levels of management. In addition, the role will require the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently in a dynamic/fast-paced work environment. Budgeting and Project Management skills will be utilized to properly scope and execute assigned work and manage project efforts.

Roles and Responsibilities:

As a member of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology team, you will be involved with all aspects of the Manufacturing Technology Development cycle.
  • Identify customer needs, define requirements, technical planning and documentation (generate statements of work, requirements documents test plans)
  • Identify and develop innovative solutions leveraging technology to meet customer needs.
  • Manage project cost (spending, charging, implementation, savings and return on investment) and schedule (develop project deliverables and detail plans including but limited to IMS project schedules, status and visibility, roadmaps, spend plans)
  • Manufacturing system development/integration, verification and validation, and implementation, identify and mitigate program risk and capture opportunity impacts.
  • Follow projects through all manufacturing readiness level phases: concept development, design, fabrication/assembly/test at lab level, production environment demo, full production operations implementation (TTP Transition to Production), sustainment/maintenance/ continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work a 4/10 shift schedule.
  • Ability to interface/communicate with multiple levels of leadership, engineering, production, customers, and suppliers.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Ability Applies extensive technical expertise, and has full knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.
  • Liaison Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects.

This requisition may be filled as a Principal Manufacturing Engineer Systems or a Senior Principal Manufacturing Engineer Systems depending on the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Manufacturing Systems Engineer:
  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and 4 years of related engineering experience or automation, OR Masters in STEM and 3 years of related engineering experience or automation OR PhD in STEM and 0 years.
  • Leadership experience leading teams or projects.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing / production operations and processes.
  • Experience with systems engineering processes, methodologies, tools, and products required to develop, integrate, evaluate, produce, deliver, operate, and sustain the technology over its operational life.
  • Ability to travel domestically 25% of the time to support business needs.
  • Experience with using Microsoft Office Products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS-Project, Visio).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret level clearance to include Special Program Access within a reasonable period, as defined by the company to meet its business needs.

Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Manufacturing Systems Engineer:
  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and 8 years of related engineering experience or automation, OR Masters in STEM and 6 years of related engineering experience or automation or PhD in STEM and 4 years of related engineering experience or automation.
  • Leadership experience leading teams or projects.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing / production operations and processes.
  • Experience with systems engineering processes, methodologies, tools, and products required to develop, integrate, evaluate, produce, deliver, operate, and sustain the technology over its operational life.
  • Ability to travel domestically 25% of the time to support business needs.
  • Experience with using Microsoft Office Products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS-Project, Visio).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret level clearance to include Special Program Access within a reasonable period, as defined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active DOD Secret or Top Secret Clearance.
  • 2 Years of leadership experience leading teams or projects.
  • Experience in working or knowledge of Process Work Instructions (PWI).
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting blueprints and 3D models.
  • Experience in system requirements development, acceptance testing and training.
  • Experience in troubleshooting systems and root cause and correction action analysis.
  • Experience in Project / Program Management (time management, communication, leadership, organization and problem solving, critical thinking and adaptability skills).
  • Experience in the development, capture, and execution of R&D technology capabilities and transition to production.
  • Experience with authoring proposals, technical documents, and procedures.
  • Experience in solid modeling design skills using NX Siemens, CATIA, Solid Works.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently in meeting customer requirements/expectations.
  • Knowledgeable in low observables, composites, metallics, materials and process experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Ability Applies extensive technical expertise, and has full knowledge of other related disciplines.

Salary Range: $95,300 - $142,900
Salary Range 2: $118,600 - $178,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
