Job DescriptionCompany Description
Job Summary: The Heavy Civil Construction Estimator is responsible for developing detailed, accurate cost estimates for heavy civil projects. This role requires in-depth knowledge of estimating processes, a strong understanding of heavy civil construction methods, and proficiency in using estimating software. The Estimator will collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure that all bids are prepared accurately, competitively, and within deadline.
Key Responsibilities:
- Estimate Preparation: Develop and prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including earthwork, concrete, utilities, roadwork, and excavation.
- Bid Coordination: Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documents to prepare comprehensive estimates. Coordinate with project managers and senior management to refine scope and adjust pricing.
- Cost Analysis: Perform detailed quantity take-offs and prepare material, labor, and equipment cost analyses based on current market conditions.
- Subcontractor and Vendor Management: Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers. Review quotes to ensure alignment with project specifications and budgets.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential project risks related to scope, cost fluctuations, and site conditions. Recommend strategies to mitigate these risks within the estimate.
- Value Engineering: Propose value engineering solutions to enhance project affordability without compromising quality. Communicate these options with project stakeholders.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain organized records of estimates, assumptions, and supporting documentation. Prepare reports and summaries for senior management.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry trends, pricing, and best practices in heavy civil construction and estimating. Recommend process and software improvements for increased accuracy and efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Estimator in heavy civil construction, with experience in large infrastructure projects preferred.
- Education: Bachelor s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction methods and practices related to heavy civil construction, including earthwork, grading, and concrete.
- Software Proficiency: Proficiency in estimating software (such as HCSS, HeavyBid) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy in calculating quantities, pricing, and risk factors.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with project managers, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple bids under tight deadlines.
- Certifications: Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or equivalent certification is a plus.
