As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Storage, you'll collaborate with operations and development teams to build and manage our scalable Block & Object Storage platforms. You'll create tooling to automate the lifecycle of petabyte-scale storage systems. You'll work with open-source technologies, including Ceph, to ensure Akamai's storage systems are reliable, available, and performant.

Compensation
Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary for this position ranges from $106,600 - $221,400/year; a candidate's salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP). As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Storage, you will be responsible for:
- Architecting new highly available storage systems and infrastructure, supporting a variety of workloads from compute customers
- Working with highly knowledgeable engineers to develop, test, and deploy new features supporting large enterprise workloads
- Engaging and networking with Ceph developers, representing Akamai in the open-source community
- Identifying bottlenecks within the entire tech stack, improving performance and reliability wherever possible in the OSI model
- Tuning Ceph, the Linux kernel, and server hardware, maximizing performance and reliability for our customers
- Leading hardware R&D efforts to keep our storage systems on the bleeding edge, validating next-generation hardware builds
Do what you love
To be successful in this role you will:
- Have 5 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or its equivalent
- Have professional experience in a Site Reliability, Development, or Systems Engineering role, with large scale distributed systems
- Have extensive experience with more than one programing language such as Python, Golang, and Bash
- Have extensive experience with configuration management at scale using Saltstack, Ansible, or Terraform
- Have extensive experience with architecting, deploying, and running mission-critical Linux servers at scale emphasizing performance and reliability
- Possess experience building automation capable of reducing manual processes in areas such as provisioning, inventory management, hardware lifecycle, and failover scenarios
