Location: This is a remote position where the candidate must reside in the domestic United States.
Job Description: As a Senior FIS Systematics COBOL Mainframe Support Developer, you will be responsible for the ongoing support support and development of modules within the legacy FIS Systematics platform. You will provide expert-level assistance in the implementation, and maintenance of this COBOL-based application on the mainframe, ensuring the systems optimal performance and addressing complex technical challenges that have compounded over the years. This role requires extensive experience with both legacy financial systems and the technical infrastructure of mainframe environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Support & Optimization: Take ownership of FIS Systematics COBOL application/modules/customizations, identifying performance bottlenecks, implementing optimizations, and ensuring the reliability of the legacy mainframe environment.
- Advanced Troubleshooting: Lead investigations into system issues, leveraging deep technical expertise in COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2. Provide expert support during critical incidents and system outages.
- Code Development & Enhancements: Design, develop, and implement complex COBOL code and system enhancements, ensuring high availability, performance, and scalability of financial systems.
- System Architecture & Strategy: Contribute to the design and strategic direction of the mainframe architecture. Collaborate with senior management and business stakeholders to align technical solutions with business objectives.
- Release Management & Upgrades: Oversee the planning and implementation of updates, patches, and upgrades to the FIS Systematics system. Ensure seamless integration with other IT systems and smooth release processes.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Lead the creation and maintenance of high-quality technical documentation. Share knowledge and best practices with the team and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams: Work closely with infrastructure, database, business analysts, and project management teams to deliver integrated solutions. Participate in cross-functional meetings to understand evolving business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Technical Skills:
- Expert-level proficiency in COBOL programming and mainframe systems.
- Extensive experience with FIS Systematics, or a similar complex financial system.
- In-depth knowledge of mainframe environments (IBM z/OS), CICS, DB2, JCL, and other mainframe technologies.
- Proficient in debugging, performance tuning, and optimizing mainframe applications.
- Experience with VSAM, batch processing, and online transaction processing (OLTP).
- Strong understanding of banking and financial services systems.
- Experience:
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in developing in FIS Systematics.
- Proven track record of resolving critical system issues and improving system performance in a mainframe environment.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Education:
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent experience in a relevant technical domain.
