Lead Development Architect - SAP Business Network
The global economy has been rapidly evolving from enterprise-centric to network-centric. No enterprise does business alone today. Suppliers, service providers, contract manufacturers, logisticspros - companies today rely heavily on their connections to their extended ecosystem to operate effectively. They need an intelligent and open network that delivers enhanced visibility, greater efficiency, and improved collaboration to achieve supply chain resilience and thrive in the face of disruption.
SAP already "owns" the largest procurement network in the world (Ariba Network) and SAP's global operations and footprint in large enterprises allow us to leverage a network effect with our massive installed base. We will win with our unified strategy, instead of siloed networks, a "best-of-suite" approach - a "network-of-networks" that includes partners and brings together existing best of breed solutions like Asset Intelligence Network, Logistics Business Network and Ariba Networks into a multi-enterprise unified business network.

Purpose and Objective
As a Lead Development Architect in the SAP Business Network CTO office, you will be part of a team driving the overall technical architecture strategy, governance, TCO, Cloud Qualities, and stakeholder collaboration model; which includes tight interlock with SAP Business Technology Platform Teams, external technology partners, and other SAP Lines of Businesses.

Purpose and Objective

The Role
Specific responsibilities include:
- Driving an aligned and consistent architecture strategy and the execution of that strategy for Next Generation applications with a focus on scale, resilience, stability, and security.
- Creating architecture concepts and driving their implementation and interlock with engineering teams.
- Delivering specific Architecture Concept Documents, Architecture Decision Records, and advising other architects and key experts.
- Developing prototypes as proof-of-concept for technical decisions.
- Evaluating architecture risks and estimating effort for business cases, preparing senior management decisions, advising senior management and chief oroduct owners regarding technical feasibility and architectural implications.
- Organizing collaborative architecture work across teams which may include guiding complex cross-functional and end-to-end technology initiatives.
- Participation in design sprint phases with involved architects of product and implementation teams.
- Driving continuous improvement and innovations in development processes, methodologies, architectures, technology.
- Exploring new technology evaluation, evaluating their viability for our use cases, trade-offs, and surfacing options for decision.
- Participate in defining architecture and coding best practices and participating in software design and code reviews with engineering teams consisting of frontend, backend, full stack, devops, and machine learning (AI) engineers.
- Guide engineers while giving them space to learn and grow.
- Support customer and partner workshops and provide solution architectures and input to enterprise architecture.
- Drive an innovation agenda by staying up to date on technology trends and latest Business Technology Platform roadmap with an eye on continuous improvement and strategic technology focus.
- Strong participation and scaling technical leadership in local architecture communities of practice.
Required education, skills and experience
- Bachelor, Master or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, or other relevant disciplines
- Proven experience in designing, developing, deploying, and testing multi-tenant business applications in the cloud with a focus on cloud, computer, or storage.
- Experience in developing and scaling reliable data-driven microservices and APIs
- Knowledge of cloud-native principles and demonstrated experience of system design.
- Familiar with one of the major cloud providers.
- At least 8+ years of professional experience as developer with 5+ years as an architect
- Proven ability to work in an agile and DevOps environment using SCRUM methodology
- Strong technical communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-cultural teams
Preferred skills and experience
- Experience in data science or data engineering
- Knowledge about the SAP Business Technology Platform
- Experience scaling databases on cloud infrastructure
- Hands-on DevOps experience with Kubernetes
- Familiar with big data and machine learning architectures and platforms.
