Job Details

A Metallic Component & Tooling Engineer is a technical expert who will provide Stamping/tooling/fabrication technical support and leadership to internal GSC North American and external supplier sites.

Leadership of projects such as product transfers, adding capacity, new tooling, replacement tooling, while identifying ways to improve safety, quality, service within Stamping, Sheet Metal and Bus bar fabrication. This role will also work extensively with our supply base in regard to the Schneider owned tooling for ongoing support, maintenance and performance.

This role should have extensive knowledge of fabrication equipment, including tooling and various types of technologies within the industry; progressive, short run, staged, high speed precision dies, deep draw, multi-slide, etc. As well as equipment such as Servo electric/Hydraulic/Mechanical, Thick Turret, Laser, etc. Knowledge of TPM, Safety protocols (ie: LOTO, safe guarding, die protection), NHID, Die sensing, etc.

Responsibilities:
  • Effectively work and collaborate with Plants, Engineering, Safety, Quality, Purchasing, etc. to drive improvements in SE tooling and metal fabrication processes. Be the technical lead and focal point for the technology within North America.
  • Represent the voice of the customer and drive safety, quality, delivery and productivity through SE owned tool and process management regardless of location.
  • Experience in Capital Management for Tooling. Ability to forecast tooling needs, quote and execute projects in a timely manner. Resolve or escalate barriers as needed.
  • Work with Purchasing in the selection of suppliers, establishing SPC parameters and monitoring key metrics to assure internal and external processes meet and/or exceed minimum product performance specification, establishing continuous improvement programs to minimize cost and increase efficiencies.
  • Work with Purchasing and the plants to continuously drive productivity and ensure SE tools are maintained in our supply base..
  • Utilize and drive standardization with our Tooling Management software, Aveva for this technology.
  • Support technical audits in Metal Forming, Sheet Metal and Spring processes and conduct periodic assessments of plant operations to evaluate the effectiveness of programs, recommend improvements.
  • Assist Purchasing as needed in technical assessment and qualification of all out sourced contactors and suppliers.
  • Support our Industrial Strategy with Metal Fabrication direction and technology support.
  • Help implement projects beyond the capability and scope of the plant, transfers to assist in annual productivity challenges.
  • Provide technical support for Tools, Plant presses and equipment to North America plants.

The ideal candidate would preferably be/have:
  • Experience: 5 or more years in tooling new construction and tooling maintenance, progressive, precision, high speed, small parts to large.
  • Experience 5 or more years in metal fabrication, punching, cutting, bending, of copper/aluminum and various sheet metals.
  • Mechanical Engineer or Tooling degree preferred
  • Desirable to have Six Sigma Green Belt along with SPS Lean Skills or equivalent
  • Experience solving problems by leading, managing, and implementing continuous improvement projects.
  • Ability to work across multiple business functions
  • Self-directed and self-motivated to identify and drive improvements
  • Strong working knowledge of computer applications (AutoCAD, MS Office, 3D modeling, etc.)
