The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) is the cornerstone college of The Ohio State University, with three mission areas dedicated to one essential purpose: We Sustain Life. CFAES is one college spread across three campuses, with our faculty and staff split evenly among the three campuses. Comprised of ten academic units including the School of Environment and Natural Resources and Ohio State ATI, plus Ohio State University Extension, CFAES has 22 bachelor's degree majors, 26 associate degree majors, and 34 minors. The CFAES Marketing and Communications team serves as a strategic resource for the college. The team is responsible for setting marketing and communication strategies and plans that align with the initiatives and priorities of the college. The team supports the recruitment, retention, development, research, outreach, and issues management for the college. They are a group of strategic marketing and communication thinkers and doers who are both proactive and reactive, identifying opportunities and removing challenges to elevate awareness, enhance reputation and ultimately inspire choice for the college. This position will report to the CFAES Associate Director of Web and Digital Strategy.
Position Summary
The Senior Web Developer plays a critical role in supporting the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) by designing, developing, maintaining, and optimizing web applications and digital platforms. As part of the Web and Digital Strategy team within Marketing and Communications, the Senior Web Developer will oversee project development, CMS development, identify needs and potential issues, as well as triage and solutions for day-to-day support requests. This position represents Web and Digital Strategy in conversations, meetings, and committees regarding the college's web presence. Manages and resolves website break/fix tickets submitted from end users. The Senior Web Developer will ensure that all digital properties are efficient, functional, accessible, visually appealing, and aligned with the college's strategic goals. The CFAES Web and Digital Strategy Team delivers website support and strategy for all departments, schools, and units within the college; some 300+ websites with hundreds of users.
This a hybrid position working from the Columbus campus, with a combination of remote and in-office work.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science information technology or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum four (4) years of professional web application development experience delivering maintaining and documenting projects built with object-oriented PHP and/or MVC frameworks. Two (2) years of experience coding responsive HTML5 and CSS3. Professional work experience using SQL databases. Professional experience with Querying relational data database schemas. Professional experience creating and consuming data via web services and APIs. Extensive (minimum 5 years) experience with web design and development, knowledge, and understanding of HTML / CSS / PHP / MySQL / CMS (content management systems - Drupal focused); extensive experience in JavaScript / jQuery. Demonstrated time management skills, engaging and working with a variety of clients. Understanding of site usability and accessibility, project management and coordination with a large portfolio. Demonstrated positive people skills. Ability to estimate development time, prioritize and manage multiple projects and
to complete tasks by due dates. Demonstrated ability to continue learning / staying current on web trends and technology. Understanding of web applications from concept through development, deployment, and maintenance.
Desired Experience
Professional experience with Drupal development including custom module development and theming. Professional experience with code versioning and management tools such as Git. Familiarity with continuous integration methodologies. Professional experience developing with JavaScript and JS frameworks such as JQuery and AngularJS. Experience with additional development frameworks: NodeJS Ruby on Rails or similar. DevOps experience, especially with Amazon AWS Experience creating websites that are accessible to users who require assistive technologies. Familiarity with SEO best practices. Knowledge of analytics tools like Google Analytics. Experience working in higher education or a similar environment is a plus. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite.
Additional Information:
The offer for this position will fall within the range of $81,000.00 - $106,500.00 and is based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
